Massive Movie
Well this has got to be one of my most favourite of movies in its genre.. George Pal was an awesome director.. This movie has so many qualities for me and an abundance of many people who watched this movie with me who are no longer here today.Everyone one of them were impressed by this movie Rod Taylor and all those cast members who played their parts I could never any other actor playing those parts. The recent film also based on this story was not even a touch on the original and even if there were to be a remake of the original Time Machine it still would not touch the edges.War Of The Worlds, When The Earth Stood Still, When Worlds Collide the originals will always have that class about them.. The era these movies were made Including the Time Machine were at a time when Man was finally beginning to see his feet..Space exploration, The Music, yes a lot of bad things also.. but as these movies go its 2024 and still people are buying and watching these very movies. The acting top notch, everything.. There was also a lot of props used from Time Machine in the Twilight Zone with Burgess Meredith not sure I spelt that right, but never mind yes the steps were used as well as those flame machines the Morlocks used that you can see when George is fighting with the Morlocks.Top film 100/100 Anyone who doesn't enjoy this what is wrong with you?

Pondering the Future of Humanity
I was born in 1965 and so it was this 1960 version, starring Rod Taylor, of HG Wells's classic novella that enthralled me as a child whenever the movie appeared on television. The film itself was imaginatively filmed for its time, such as the use of time-lapse photography, and it won an Oscar for its special effects.Having recently read the novella, I see how the 1960 movie is by and large true to the literary work (and certainly so when compared to the more recent film version starring Guy Pearce). But there are differences. The novella was published in 1895, and the time-travelling protagonist therein goes forward direct to the year 802701.In the film he takes forty-five minutes to get there, for Rod Taylor first stops in 1917 and 1940 to provide a commentary on the two world wars of the twentieth century. He then also stops in the year 1966, the writer of the screenplay positing that a third world war had then started. This latter aspect I thought interesting until lava started to flow through the streets of London once the (atomic) bombs had done their worst, thus demonstrating that Hollywood has a notoriously bad sense of geology as well as of history.Other notable differences are that Taylor comes across the Eloi only when Weena is drowning, and the Eloi themselves speak good English. An interesting new feature of the movie is the existence of the talking rings that are able to provide some expository background on how the two races of the Eloi and the Morlochs separately evolved. But rather than use Wells's own philosophical musings, the film says it was due to some global catastrophe whereby some merely took their chances underground. (Wells had suggested that it was due to the workers being forced underground by the landed classes, which wouldn't really go down well in 1960s capitalist America.) The sense of a previous catastrophe as the cause is of course skilfully and cleverly heightened in the film by the use of air-raid sirens calling the Eloi to their fate.In the novella the protagonist does not get very far underground, because he is attacked as soon as he reaches the Morloch's realm, but in the film he gets to destroy their `factory', rescues Weena, and brings about a rebellious transformation of the Eloi from their former decadent and passive state. (In the book Weena dies.)But despite all these key differences - and key omissions too - the film is still an impressive attempt to capture the adventure and excitement of Wells's work, as well as providing a little room for the viewer to ponder on the future of humanity. My DVD comes with a forty-eight minute extra film from 1992 called `Time Machine: The Journey Back'. Hosted by an older Rod Taylor and featuring some of the actors and technical crew, we see how the time machine was designed, and how the effects were done - five seconds of screentime taking five hours to make using stop-frame photography. But half of this `documentary' is made up of Rod Taylor and fellow-actor Alan Young seeking to reprise their roles in new scenes. These do not really work, but overall there is much of interest in this extra documentary.

'HE'S GOT ALL THE 'TIME' IN THE WORLD'
Also viewed on Prime Video.....good picture qualityH.G.WELLS' A futuristic novel writer bringing us many imagination busting books including'War of The Worlds' written in 1898, 'Island of Doctor Moreau' 1896 and 'The Invisible Man'1897 among many along with this 'The Time Machine' in 1895....what a visionary he reallywas. In recent years a re-make of this film starring 'Guy Pearce' (2002) although this the 1960 film,is obviously dated by todays standards it is in my view far superior to the 2002 re-make.The film - 'H.George Wells' -'George' (Rod Taylor) has been experimenting with a machine hebuilt that he hopes will Wisk him into the future, or indeed the past, same place, a differenttime.'George' plans to take himself into the future, convincing those close to him, friends, of it's realityand potential is indeed another matter, he fails to convince them. It's the turn of the Century, New Years Eve 1899 before leaving after the demonstration with amini-version passed off by his dinner guests as a trick, his closest friend 'David Filby' (Alan Young)try's to persuade 'George' not to meddle with the unknown.'Georg' however is impatient he needs to try out his 'Time Machine' at first slowly, then speedingthe process up, he observes the changes in the surroundings, stopping in 1917 because he couldno longer see out the window, he finds his home is now boarded up, he checks out some of thechanges with bemusement. His journey had only just begun, he stopped just once more in the 20th Century, he witnesses massdestruction, finally having whisked through time he halts the countdown forward, the year 802701.He investigates what first appears to be an idyllic world, however things were not quite as it firstseemed. The inhabitants the 'Eloi' a passive race were merely awaiting their coming of age to be preyed uponby creatures that dwell below ground - The Morlocks'He is befriended by a girl he had saved from the River, 'Weena' (Yvette Mimieux)This is a strange place 'George' struggles to make sense of what has happened to the World he'dleft behind years before. He decides he should return to his own time, he has much to tell his sceptical friends, but, his machinehas been dragged behind closed doors in a structure he seemingly couldn't enter.'George' is about to learn the reality's of the time he's now in, things are about to become clear. The visual-effects of this 1960 movie were indeed pretty impressive for that time, we take ComputerGenerated Imagery for granted these days......this, then, was quite something to marvel at in truth. The picture and sound quality has received a credible upgrade. The film is currently available on the 'Blu-ray' format (Import) on 'Amazon' ....the good news is that thefilm is 'Multi-Region'Well worth both viewing and owning.Special Features -* Behind-the-scenes documentary 'Time Machine' The Journey back, hosted by 'Rod Taylor' and featuring 'Alan Young' and 'Whit Bissell'* Theatrical Trailer.

Great film, great visual effects, classic version
I have been trying for many years to get hold of a copy of the original 1960 version of The Time Machine, and it was great to finally be able to buy it. It arrived just before Christmas, so it was a top notch present to myself! The Australian actor, Rod Taylor, plays the part of George, the Time Traveller perfectly, with a top supporting cast, including Alan Young (Wilbur Post, from Mr. Ed), Sebastian Cabot (Giles French, from Family Affair), and Yvette Mimieux (Weena, the Eloi girl that George falls in love with, in the year 802,701). The visual and special effects are magnificent, the story is interesting and engaging, and is a great adaptation of the original novel by H. G. Wells. Great artwork too on the packaging. If I was able to mark it higher, I would give it 10 out of 10!
