Essential history if we are to understand and improve our current schools
I am an educational researcher and I found this book essential in helping create a basic understanding of the challenges we as Americans have faced in creating our public schools. Too often history glosses over the tough issues, avoiding the times when we failed or only met the needs a select group of people. This book helps us understand that living in a democratic society requires us to learn from our struggles. Essential reading if you are an American citizen looking to understand where we have been and what lessons we should reflect upon as we move forward.

Very Helpful
I am a high school student and I used this book for a research project on Horace Mann and the history of the American public school system, and I found it very helpful, as well as fairly easy to read.

Pages are all are all wrong and missing pages after page 19.
The pages were all wrong in the book after page 19. And when I finally came across it for class I was told I couldn't return it for a refund or one that is correct.

本文は "1770−1900 The Common School", "1900-1950 As American As Public School", "1950-1980 Separate And Equal", "1980-2000 The Bottom Line" という4つのパートからなる。
