Works As Good As It Looks
This Berkel 200 is pricey and it's heavy. But it slices like a charm and so worth the price to a home chef or baker who loves a good sandwich. Being heavy it doesn't slide around when using. Pretty enough to leave out all the time. I love this appliance. So far it has handled bacon, bread, cheese, ham, and turkey with no problems. I even stuck in a tomato and found the sweet spot here is going with thicker slices. I justify the cost by skipping the expensive deli counter at the grocery store. I buy hunks of cheese and slice my own. Cooked meats cut like butter and there is nothing like a stack of super thin steak slices between two slices of homemade bread. There are cheaper slicers out there but too cheap and you a looking at rust and cracked plastic in no time. Some machines in this price range may perform just as well but my Berkel is just so darn attractive in red. Solidly built of metal, aluminum and a few small plastic parts, it screams quality. I'm sure it will outlive me. The only thing I can complain about is the additional cost of the blade remover which is not included. That said I am still happy with my purchase and believe it is worth it.

Could be better
I did lots of research on home table top slicer. I love that it’s very quiet not like the $100 ones that sound like a table saw!! It is VERY easy to clean. The only problem is:1. No manual on how to remove the blade to clean. I had to google a few videos to figure out how to use the blade remover thingy.2. The blade on top may be stainless steel but on the bottom it’s starting to chip and rust. I don’t leave food particles in there cause once I figured out how to remove the blade I always clean it after use. For the price of this slicer, that part was such a disappointment.

Pricey but fantastic
It's quiet, it's decently heavy but not overly so, it's nice looking, and it works fantastic. Super quiet. It's also pricey. I pulled the trigger on a black Friday deal. As far as slicers go, if the price isn't prohibitive, I would go for it. A visitor stopped by as I was using it and said "I'm buying that". It really is that nice.

The Ferrari-Lamborgini of Slicers
It's magnificent, I've wanted a Berkel for years, only I wish it were just a biy better designed. The on/off button isn't ergonomic, I keep searching for the right angle to turn it on; the motor sticks out a bit too far after the blade so slicing bread breaks the slices; the gizmo that pushes the meat out after it is sliced is attached by a weak magnet and falls off. Nonetheless, it's a thing of beauty.

Doesn’t come with the blade extractor
You can’t clean this machine properly without the blade extractor. It doesn’t come with the slicer. It cost another $62 to order the blade extractor.

Step up from the normal home slicer
I had been shopping for a slicer for a while. My folks had a commercial slicer, so I knew I was not going to be happy with one of the nylon geared home units. The next affordable step up seemed to be the slicers that looked like they were made by one company but branded by 10 different companies. I just am not a fan of companies that do not own their own production. Based on unique design alone, you can tell this is a Berkel manufactured item (Berkel factory in India where produced). The slicer is awesome works like a charm, quiet powerful and easy to clean. I still feel a 5 start item even though a couple little disappointments. 1. I wish the blade remover was included. 2. could use a handle or something (no slicers are easy to maneuver though)

A high quality work of art
I saw these food slicers in upscale restaurants and piadina bars in Italy and Switzerland. They are so beautiful that some places simply have them on display. I have always wanted one but knew they cost thousands of dollars. I was therefore very excited to learn that Berkel finally made a "Home Line". This Berkel slicer is for people who appreciate the finer things in life and who enjoy the enhanced taste of freshly sliced food (meat, cheese, fruit, etc.). Highly, highly recommended.

Not as premium as the price suggests
This slicer sure looks pretty and works reasonably well. That being said, at this price point I would have expected the housing not to be made of cheap plastic. I also would have expected the blade extractor not to be a separate $58 purchase. And it is not optional as the manual suggests. You need it to remove the blade and properly clean the machine. The thickness slider has a fair amount of play in it and no detents, so if you try to change the thickness by 1, the blade only actually moves by .5. It’s a bit like slapping a fake luggage rack on a Chevy Cavalier and calling it a Cadillac.
