David Michod's highly anticipated follow-up to ANIMAL KINGDOM is set in a world 10 years following the collapse of society. The rule of law has disintegrated and life is cheap. The film follows hardened loner Eric (Pearce) as he travels the desolate towns and roads of the Outback. When a gang of thieves steals his car they leave behind a wounded Rey (Pattison) in their wake. Forcing Rey to help track the gang, Eric will go to any length to take back the one thing that still matters to him

A harsh, uncompromising masterpiece
[NO SPOILERS]I'd give The Rover 7 out of 5 stars if I could; it's that good. Unfortunately its Amazon rating has been pounded thanks to a huge influx of 1-star/1-line reviews after the movie was offered without charge to Amazon Prime members, something I've seen happen to great films a few times now, and not surprising when a challenging, uncompromising and decidedly non-mainstream film like this is offered to casual browsers just looking for cheap entertainment for the evening. This film especially had no chance given that it stars Robert Pattinson of Twilight fame, in a film that would no doubt leave the average Twilight fan dumbfounded and dissatisfied. It's their loss. Pattinson is outstanding here--this was a brave choice for him, a role that required walking a careful line to hit the right emotional notes, and it's given me fresh respect for his acting ability. And Guy Pearce is like a force of nature, radiating fury and torment in every scene and communicating more raw emotion with fewer words of spoken dialogue than any performance I've seen in years. The setting of this film brings to mind classic apocalyptic films of the 70s and 80s, and manages to do it without feeling dated or derivative. It was like watching the resurrection of a genre I'd thought was gone forever. The bleak yet majestic landscapes are brilliantly captured, and along with the unconventional and wide-ranging score they serve to reinforce the mood of desolation that is the film's emotional core. This is one of those rare films where every element is perfectly balanced to realize the overall artistic vision. This is most definitely not a film for all audiences; it's harsh and utterly uncompromising, and it asks as much as it gives. But if you're open to that kind of experience, you owe it to yourself to watch it.

Superb Acting Triumphs in The Rover
I was very interested to see this film as I am a huge Guy Pearce fan as well as Robert Pattinson fan. The story centers around Guy Pearce's character, Eric, who is set on a mission. A mission we don't really know about until the very end. On this journey his car is stolen in a botched robbery attempt where one of the thief's is injured. Guy sets out to regain his vehicle, at any cost. While I can understand where some might find the pace slow I saw it as a build up to an explosive finish. The acting was suburb throughout. Guy Pearce is extraordinary as the lone drifter, fighting the apathy within him. Guy has always been excellent as capturing that reluctant hero quality, fighting for control of not only his feelings but his humanity as well and in this film he does not disappoint. What truly astounded me though was Robert's performance. I think this was likely the first film where he was truly unrecognizable in the role. He plays the part of the slow, hapless brother with ease and believability. His character, Rey, learns through this unlikely friendship with Eric how to stand on his own, to defend himself, while maybe not approaching it in the right way he does find his voice. The film is often very abstract and one has to find the meaning between the lines but for me it was easily worth the work. If you are interested in a movie that is far from the cookie cutter of mainstream Hollywood and want something that will make you ponder and think, then this is the film for you.

Fantastic movie. Gritty in film style and content
Fantastic movie. Gritty in film style and content. More violent than I anticipated (but not overly gory), which is fine by me. I found this movie on a torrent list. I never heard of it, so I was riveted the entire time. The ends certainly justified the means in this movie. I would have done the same thing.

Sci Fi type of movie like into the future story, if you don’t have interest in that don’t buy
Ordered this bc Iove Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce, review said nothing about this being a Sci Fi after the end of world type of story, I can’t read and have never been fan of this so I returned it without viewing, review should have been more complete.

Nice entertaining movie
Great! I love this movie, it is different and Robert plays such a different character and it is good to see him dirty and not so pretty and well clean, to see his acting in other roles.

No problem to arrive, I be interested in Spanish ...
No problem to arrive, I be interested in Spanish this VIDEO but I have not seen that was ULTRA VIOLET (UV) and in Latin America there is this system, let me know when you get translated, I could not return because I opened it, but I'll see as I do to see it, but if you know in Spanish translation without this impediment, UV .., they appreciate it and if in the same system as told above, the movie star maps. A Pattinson hit.
I am a Robert Pattinson fan so, of course, I enjoyed watching this movie. Pattinson never fails to do an excellent job no matter what role he plays.
