Hello, Crabby!: An Acorn Book (A Crabby Book #1) (1)

My kid loves these books and quotes them endlessly. Unfortunately, these books communicate that being kind of a jerk is funny. The setup for each book involves Crabby (the cantankerous crustacean) fending off the toxic positivity of his frenemy Plankton. It’s clever and cute, but at times it veers into bullying territory, where Crabby tricks Plankton into counting to a high number during hide-and-seek so he can ditch him or deliberately scares Plankton with a story about a plankton getting eaten by his best friend so Plankton can’t fall asleep. There are a lot of references to these characters becoming seafood, which has led to my son declaring his vegetarianism at 5 years old (maybe that sounds like a perk for other vegetarians, but it’s extremely distressing for him that anyone would eat a crab). I’m giving these books away the minute my son loses interest.

My 6 and half year old loves this series! She cracks up laughing and it has motivated her reading because she finds Crabby so entertaining:)

My daughter loves this series of books... and she looks forward to reading them every night. ♥️

Love these Acorn books! We first discovered them at a Scholastic Book Fair at school and they are the only books that my daughter actually enjoys reading! Highly recommend! We are buying all the ones we don't have yet.

Great book for my 6 year old who will be heading into first grade. Funny story with great illustrations. He can’t wait to get more books about Crabby!!
