I bought this 120 amp alternator as an upgrade to the alternator on a 1996 Baja Islander 180. The engine is a 4.3 liter Mercruiser v6. We had added a stereo system with an amplifier and we needed more capacity from the original alternator. The alternator itself appears to be a high quality unit and it fit perfectly with no modifications at all. Even the wiring was identical to the original 55 amp alternator. I did add a #4 gauge wire from the alternator to the battery in addition to the existing alternator wire. When running the engine, there was 14.22 volts at the battery. All in all, this is a terrific upgrade for the charging system on the boat. This is an Update: I took the boat out a couple of days ago and the alternator worked perfectly. The alternator was charging at 14.22 volts. Very pleased so far.

The only thing was the colored wires were connected to the matching wires on the boat. But it didn't work. We took to our boat mechanic and they changed up the wires. It now runs

Purchased this alternator, used approximately 60hrs and it failed. Was out of the warranty period so I sent it to be repaired and was informed by the repair shop that it is only a 65 amp alternator. Would not recommend.

I run two amplifiers on my boat and it charges both batteries quickly.

Works as it's supposed to
