When you smell gas at 3am and run outside in your PJs the last thing you want is to be trying to find a wrench or whatever. Get one of these and tie it to the gas valve with a loose piece of (plastic!) twine, that way it's there when you need it. (Make sure it fits your shutoff, though I think they're pretty standard.)The zinc plating should make it relatively rust-resistant, we'll see how it lasts over the years but there's enough metal in there it shouldn't turn into dust overnight. Probably don't leave it lying directly on the ground though?

The quality of the wrench is quite good but, perhaps, too good for my particular gas meter. Both of the wrench slots were too tight for me to be able to get it on the rectangular control lug on my meter. I had to file them out just a bit before the wrench would fit and work.

It fits the valve on the gas company meter perfectly which is exactly what it is meant to do — nothing more, nothing less. I especially appreciate the instructions engraved in the metal since my wits tend to flee in emergency situations. It hangs in a dedicated place in my home for quick access in an emergency. And, I travel with another one. Who knows? I may save a whole hotel from disaster someday! :) It’s small, simple, and mighty. I think negative reviewers don’t understand it.

I didn't think to measure the piece on my gas meter that this would work with. I assumed they are all the same size. It's so reasonably priced that I am not even going to worry about sending it back. My lesson learned... measure before ordering. Don't ASS U ME it will fit...

I chose this solution because it has no moving parts. I wanted something I could hang on the gas meter so it was handy when needed. In the past I hung a pair of channel lock pliers and a crescent wrench. Both of these tools require moving parts to work correctly. After being out in the weather for months/years they would rust and not work any more. This product is galvanized steel with no moving parts. It is perfect for hanging on or near your gas meter and will be sure to work in case of emergency no matter how long it has hung on your gas meter.

This is something i think everyone who has a gas meter needs. I store this outside right next to my gas meter, so far it has not rusted and is holding up good. This way if i ever need to shut of my gas in an emergency (fire, earth quake, etc) I do not have go looking for a wrench, it is right there at the shut off.

It fits. Hope I never have to use it.

Bought 8 of these to be attached to gas meters in different places in our townhouse complex. They are so simple that it never occurred to me to check to see if they worked.As I was checking the functioning of a gas valve I discovered the wrench is the wrong size. The openings on both ends are too small to fit over the rectangular lug on the valves. Glad it wasn't an emergency where the consequences could have been serious.Our valves are the standard ones used throughout BC and probably the rest of Canada, so the problem is with the wrench. Sending them back.

The shut off wrench is zinc coated so hopefully it will last a long time before it rusts.
