SmittyBilt VAULTED GLOVE BOX - SB812201

I do like this glove box. I did not, however, like trying to install it. The instructions were pretty bad, but not all jeeps are the same, so I understand why. I did break a drill bit trying to get a new hole drilled, since the holes didnt line up. Additionally, I couldnt tighten a few bolts too tight, otherwise it would warp the structure of the glove box and it wouldnt lock. After tweaking it for about 45 minutes, I finally got it in place and locked.One last annoyance, it does vibrate at times. Even though it does come with some cheap weather stripping to help with that, you will still have some rattling.Outside of the headache, I would still buy this again.

A couple weeks ago someone broke into my jeep (cut right through the plastic windows) and took a pry bar to my old glove box, completely breaking the lock and latch mechanism and leaving me with a massive hole where my glove box once was. So, I began looking around on line and found this one. Before I ordered this online I was really worried about how it would fit and how difficult the install would be, turned out to be a breeze! It took me about 10 minutes to install (my old glove box was already out due to the broken latch) and it works well! Though if someone wanted to they could pry their way into it with a lot of force and a good amount of time, it is a very good glove box. For me, when I unlock it, it pretty much falls open, there is no need to pull on it at all. I feel very secure with it in my jeep, and though I won't be leaving anything of extreme value in there, I trust its safety much more than the stock glove box.

My original glove box broke. The latching mechanism fell apart. I had my glovebox held shut with bungee cords. Factory replacements were fairly hardto find and priced way too high. With my luck, they probably wouldnt have lasted long either. I turned to smitybilt.My first impression was this thing is heavy. Very well built and will suit my needs. Installation was a breeze. Only took me about 20 minutes. The padding is definitely stiff until it gets broken in making good the door hard to lock up. Give it a couple days and it will be much easier. Excellent storage solution.

I purchased this glove box even after reading some of the negative reviews. The installation is a little cumbersome, had to use vice grips to get some of the screws back in, and the frame is a little off for the mounting position on my 2000 TJ. The two bottom screw holes do not match up exactly which makes for a little fun in playing the space and angle screw game. The frame plate warps a bit when installed and bulges 2/3's of the way down on both sides. I'm not sure if this was designed to do that, but it doesn't seem to cause any problems with the door closing. I adjusted mine so that it does not rattle whatsoever, mainly because the neoprene padding that was included had no way of being attached to the frame. If the neoprene was ever sticky, it seems like it was a while before I received the item. For those that were complaining about no finger pull lever on the face, I ordered the Tuffy finger pull lever to fit onto this box. It may require a little modification, but for $7 I'm not going to complain.

Look like a well built box, but mine came with the finish scratched up on one edge and one big scratch across the bottom. It's easy to install, but not without a drill to get a good fit. It's in an '04 Rubicon that I mainly use for mudding and wasn't too worried about the scratches. If you have a nice jeep that's your daily driver I would forget this thing. I am going to request a replacement and see how far that goes.

While this product feels built well, it arrived in less than stellar condition. The screws were not properly bagged and many of them were loose in the box and scratched up the thin powder coat on the face of the glove box. I am going to have to paint it prior to install to keep it from rusting in the damp winter months. The instructions are missing at least one page as I only got one page that starts on step 3, and that one looked like it was crumple/folded by a 3 year old and loosely crammed in the bag with the screws.Smittybilt has been known for its quality products, but there needs to be better QC if it wants to keep that reputation.

Had to work work with it to get it to close. I had to bend the latch catch out to get it to close and lock. It works and looks good. I gave it a two because of the fitment issues and more importantly the lock screwed up and locked in a postion you cant insert key to open. I had to remove it and go buy a better more durable lock that wasnt broken. Everything works great now.

I wanna like it but I can't ever get in to it the lock is so sticky it snaps the key off I have tried everything but I'm probably just gonna pull it out and throw in in the trash

A must have. Installed in about 20 minutes. Very secure.The moving parts are a bit stiff but if you lock, unlock, open and close it about 30 times or so rapidly everything smooths out.Very very secure!

fast delivery, product quality excellent. May have gotten a returned product, instructions were missing, wing nuts missing, cap nuts provided instead of proper nuts for installation. Downloaded instructions from website, installation very straight forward.

Doesn't line up with factory holes on my 98 tj. Drilled new holes, and the bolts they provide are way to long. Waste of money, and wrecked my TJ.

The quality is good and seems to be very secure. I do wish it would latch without the key.

Great product. Mine had a nice flush fitment. All the parts were inside. The lock was in proper position. Very happy with this product.
