Ultra Tec Biltong-Pro radiused Slicer with Magnetic Stainless Steel Tray

I make my own biltong & have always thought about getting a slicer. Browsed a few of the cheaper versions but kept coming back to this one. As soon as I unboxed it, I could tell this was a premium product. Even the outer box tells you, you have made a quality purchase. This implement has been very well designed and beautifully crafted. The curved 'trough ' of the cutting board lends itself to round objects such as biltong, salami or vegetables...etc and discourages them from moving away from the blade when pressure is applied to cut it. The blade is secured to an elegantly machined fulcrum by means of 3 stainless hex bolts with spring washers. The blade itself is curved, made from high quality ground, high carbon steel, with a high quality satin finish. The machining and overall finish on the metal work is of a very high standard with care and attention. The blade is EXTREMELY sharp and closes on an opposing plate that forms part of the base, in a self sharpening scissor action. The metal tray is stainless steel and attaches to the base via magnets - very slick. The slicer unit will fit into the tray snugly, for easier storage. Oh, and of course this amazing implement slices paper thin, if you want it to, with ease and comfort. It's an absolute joy to use. Trouble is now, that most of my current batch of biltong is now sliced up and mostly devoured by my kids...! If you're looking for a biltong slicer, spend the extra on this unit, you won't regret it.

I have been making biltong in the UK for a while now (handy seeing as I've married a South African) and while I've always used a sharp cleaver to slice it, I've been making more and more recently, and started looking to upgrade. This slicer caught my eye and after reading the reviews, I took the plunge. First impressions on receiving the box were that it appears professional - the packaging is good, both inside and out. Build quality is excellent. The blade is hefty and thick, and doesn't bend when used. It cuts with a scissor-like action, so whilst the blade isn't sharp like a knife, it does cut cleanly and evenly. There are non-slip pads on the base of the cutting board and these do stop it sliding around on the worktop. The metal tray attaches to the base of the board by 2x little magnets. As someone pointed out in another review, this does stick proud under the blade, and if the manufacturer had machined out 2mm to allow it to fit snugly, that would be an improvement, but this is a minor criticism and in no way indication of a poorly made product. I was able to vary the slices of biltong to almost wafer-thin. It was also able to cope with the very dry ends that are usually hard to cut with a basic knife. Included in the box is a waxed sheet briefly explaining the history of biltong, along with some basic recipes. However, these are incomplete and it would. E nice if they had included a few more recipes / guides for other variations of biltong. However, that said, i didn't buy this for the recipe card, I brought it to cut biltong, this does an excellent job of that! I cannot recommend it highly enough!

I took delivery of this bad boy recently. I can quite honestly say that this is the best biltong cutter I have ever owned - I've owned 4 in various shapes and sizes. I've been debating getting one of these for quite some time now and I am elated with how the gamble turned out. I have to recommend this to anyone who has been debating it, you wont regret it. It glides through the meat with ease and when you try get the smallest a wafer it stays true and doesn't twist or bend out of shape like the other types do - See image attached. When you consider that this is the same price as conventional biltong cutters on here and on other internet selling sites, you'll wonder how this type of quality can't be more expensive that the others.

Well made, cuts well, concave shape works well. Best kitchen purchase I’ve made for a while!

I have been making Biltong for around two years and have always found that cutting the finished product is the hardest bit. Not now. I saw this on Gavin Conways facebook biltong group after another member of the group bought one. It arrived within 48 hours of ordering and was put straight to use on my latest batch. It was effortless to cut Biltong to any thickness I wanted. The stainless steel catch tray fits under the cutter for storage and "sticks" to the edge of the cutter with two small button magnets when in use. The blade is seriously sharp and seems to be a self sharpening sheer type arrangement. Time will tell. It would have got 5 stars had one of the little button magnets not fallen off as soon as I took the cutter out of the box. A dab of superglue fixed it back in place.

Very nice product and easy to use. One problem that I have however is that when cutting biltong sometimes the tray will be collection tray moves. This only happened when you have have a lot of biltong to cut or you ave to push down hard. Although I mentioned this as a problem it is one that doesn't bother me too much as it all happens due to the collection tray being magnetic which does in fact make up for it shifting out of place every now and again as it makes it very easy to store and clean after uses. If you do buy this product and have similar problems as I do I suggest just not letting the biltong pile up to much and don't try to rush cutting your Biltong.

I've been making biltong for a few years and persevered with a knife. Decided to buy a decent cutter. Looked at this one for a while and liked the design with the scissor action cut, rather than a blade cutting against nothing. Was not disappointed it produces a clean cut and makes my biltong really look the part now. Taste just the same though. Fantastic.

I have been making biltong for a few months now and one part I struggle with is the cutting. I have a biltong knife but nothing fancy. Because of this and probably lack of skill, my cuts were all over the place. This product is amazing. It's clean, quick and smooth. Next to no pressure is needed and you get such fine and thin neat cuts. I couldn't recommend this enough!!!
