Q: Is this the same stuff people use to grow plants on? aka hygrolon?

No! Not cheap sarang! But very elegant sound transparent stuff.

Q: I need to recover some ceiling speakers with fabric, any ideas on how to make this work ? thanks

Contact cement on the tucked-in edge of the stripped grill. Trim aroun so it will not touch the driver's suspension. This cloth is thick. Tricky to work with. I used it on BOSE 901-3. Elegant.

Q: Will this cloth allow infrared beam to pass through?

I going to guess that the weave is open enough that IR controls may work through it, but maybe only if it's a straight-on shot. Not sure how IR at an angle through this cloth would be. An alternative would be to use an RF control in place of the IR control.

Q: What would be the best product to glue/stick this down to a large board with several speakers mounted within the perimeter? Contact cement?

Contact cement works well. Make sure you iron the fabric thoroughly before installation.
