When feminism meets fashion
This is a subject - in fact many subjects - close to my heart. Katherine Woodfine shines a light on a woman making waves in history, by making her clients feel good about their clothes. I loved finding out about Marie-Jeanne Rose Bertin, and I loved it that this story was all about imagination, hard work, dedication and, ultimately, friendship. That's a lot to pack into a little book. It would make a great present for a keen fashionista and/or a reluctant reader, and every library should have a copy.

Brilliant for a free reader
Fabulous books that really taps into my daughters love of dresses and making dresses with any fabric and well placed knots. Not a very long read. Only about 80 pages half filled with words and lots with a beautiful illustration on - much less than the school provided her as a free reader. But! She is actually enjoying reading this.

Great little book about a largely unknown woman
In just a small book - ideal for newly independent readers - Katherine Woodfine tells the story of Rose Bertin, fashion designer to Marie Antoinette. It’s also illustrated by Kate Pankhurst which makes it absolutely beautiful. Katherine writes the story of Rose growing up poor and moving to Paris to be a seamstress with all of her trademark style and simplicity which is a joy to read.

Small but perfectly formed!
Rose's Dress of Dreams is a super little read - published by Barrington Stoke in the Little Gems series, it's a fictionalised account of the life of Rose Bertin, said to be the world's first fashion designer. Printed on cream paper with good spacing and beautiful illustrations by Kate Pankhurst (remember Fantastically Great Women Who Made History?) this is a relaxing, easy read, perfect for reading for pleasure. Aimed at 5 years and upwards, it would be lovely to read to a child as a bedtime story but equally good as a first chapter book to read solo. I loved reading about Rose and her journey to the French court and feel inspired to go and research her more - thanks Katherine Woodfine!
