Great foraging book
Excellent foraging book!! I really enjoy how it gives you ideas for how to eat, and proper seasons and places to look for each plant.Only issue I have is that it could often use another photo or two of some plants. But it already has at least one for each.It is also missing a few somewhat common plants, but it has 120 already.

Good information
I canNOT wait to use this book. I have been interested in learning to forage during backcountry hikes in the PNW for years. After a lot of research, I settled on this book and it includes a plethora of edible plamt information, as well as warnings. Also as described in product description it tells you how to pick responsibly so the plant can continue to propegate. I have 2 complaints, I wish the pictures also included a picture of the back of the leaves. Ever look at the back of a plants leaves, they can be distinct all on their own and would be even more helpful for identifying some of these plants. I do not want to make a mistake 5-10 miles from civilization. Finally, I wish it were lighter and more compact.

A valuable book for my library
This is an excellent book. It is well written with clear descriptions and helpful tips. The images are beautiful and helpful in identifying the plants that are listed in this book. I have lent this book to a wild-crafter who is impressed with the content.I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about edible plants here in the PNW!

Great for Teaching Kids
I bought this book for my nine-year-old who, after reading My Side of the Mountain, became really interested in finding local plants for us to forage. I love that the beginning discusses the importance of being good stewards to the land as well as other important wildcrafting and environmental practices. The meat of the book though is the plant identification section, I live in Eastern Washington and was worried that, as with other "Pacific Northwest" books, it would only focus on the west side of the state, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a large diversity of plants that we do have in our area. Each plant also has suggestions on how to prepare and eat what you forage.I do wish there were a few more ID photos of each plant, but we have been able to find and wildcraft elderberries (which we turned into a syrup for winter coughs,) as well as oregon grapes, so far. Moreover the book has made him (and me now!) hungry for more knowledge about edible native plants and foraging.

Pros and Cons, needs some enhancements to be 5 star
Pros--Full color pictures for identification-Gives when, where and how of harvesting-Gives cautionary notesCons--Missing important categories such as; mushrooms, and seafood item easily accessible from land(such as clams, et al) not covered.-Adding a few recipes would be helpful and inspiring-needs broader categories for grouping item in table of contents, ie; leafy greens, berries, nuts & seeds, etc.-index could be more user friendly for beginners

Great for the in-depth knowledge
I live in Washington and camp occasionally. I thought this would be a good thing to know and found many of the plants in the book live right on my property. cant wait till spring to start testing this out

Gift for a foraging friend!
After reading the reviews I hesitated a bit due to the size of the guide and its impracticality for use in the field. However, knowing my friend's interests, I decided to give it a go and she was absolutely delighted with it! As she is quite knowledgeable already about wild edibles in B.C., the fact that she was so happy with it as a resource speaks highly of the content and layout. The pictures are very clear and there is enough information to be a continuously useful go-to resource.

Amazing book, with great
Amazing book, with great, detailed content. It is on the larger/heavier side for those concerned about packing light on long treks. This was supposed to be a gift, however it arrived with some minor damage to one of the corners making it shy of presentable, not sure if it was a shipping/packaging issue or the book had been used before. I've chosen to keep it for myself.

Amazing - Great Pictures
I love it. I was like a kid in a candy shop. I’m so excited to finally be able to identify all the berries I see here on the island. I’ve always wondered if certain ones are edible or not. Looking forward to making a wild berry pie this summer :)
