SPYPOINT SOLAR-DARK Trail Camera , Brown

I bought this camera to use in my yard looking for roof rats that have been reported near our neighborhood. The motion detection was very good, the best thing I found on it which was a value over other trail cams is the solar battery. I live in a very hot and direct sun location and the battery has yet to go down. It runs all night and recharges durning the day. No extra AAA batteries needed since I bought it. The picture quality is decent. Not superb, but decent. Color quality is good, and night vision with-in 8-10 feet is good.

The ability to leave your camera and come back several weeks or months later is a game-changer in some situations. I had these installed on a tree for months, and they kept capturing without fail - that is, until a deer decided to chew on one of them. Deer attacks aside, they hold up well, work fine in partial shadow, with some snow over the solar cell, and do not seem to be affected by elements.That said, the cameras are not perfect. For one, somewhat weirdly, the internal battery indicator is pretty unreliable. You really have to leave it plugged for at least a day to charge, no matter what the battery indicator says. If you don't, the camera might randomly quit after a day or two.The quality of daytime photos is quite competent, although the dynamic range is rather low - you can end up with washed out areas when you have sunlight shining through vegetation. Night photos are nothing to write home about - a bit hit and miss. You can tell what's in the photo, but at least half of the captures are probably going to be blurry or overexposed - and that's on the "blur reduction" setting.Motion detection is not sophisticated, it's a basic PIR sensor. So, if you have any vegetation in front of the sensor, and it is moved by the wind, you're gonna have a lot of false alerts. Bring a knife or garden shears with you.

While I’m sure this is a great product, we could not activate the camera through the app. We were able to contact tech support, but they were unable to help. I think it had something to do with not having the right label to scan and the tech support person seemed flummoxed by this. If I would have been able to send a photo of the label we had through online chat, I’m sure they would have been able to help, but I couldn’t do that so I just returned it. Frustrating because it was exactly what we were looking for. We did end up buying the link micro light with an external 12V solar battery for about the same price. Honestly, I haven’t had the time to try and activate it yet, but all the right labels are there so it should be a pretty easy process.

my only issue with the camera is when I open it to get the card out, there are insects living in there. I suspect that means that there is water getting in. I am hoping that doesn't mean a shorter life span for the camera.

Excellent pictures in the day with great depth. Pictures not as good at night as the last ugliest same camera we purchased. Still a great trail camera

The listing states mobile app capabilities but it doesn't not have that. The only reason I bought it was for that. - Listing is in error apparently.

It does not record in Mp4 format. The AVI file has to be converted before you can share it.

Pros: solar excellent, trigger speed excellent, menu and controls excellent.Cons: sound terrible, picture quality fair, temperature way off in fahrenheit.
