ANTHONY DOLLAR: In 1979 the US Mint began producing the small dollar coin depicting Susan B Anthony dumping more then 750,000,000 (Seven Hundred and fifty MILLION) coins into vaults around the country. The following years saw almost a 90% drop in production as few where paid out. In 1981, a paltry sum of less then 10 million where distributed ONLY through numismatic sets sold by the US Government to collectors. In a futile atempt to get the dollar coins used, the Government forced there distribution through Post Office vending machines as change where they migrated to sock drawers around the country. The lack of acctual use dried up vault supplies and the Government decided to produce the SBA again in 1999, just months before the release of the Sacagawea Dollar in 2000. This late production meant that the Dollars where not included in the already issued proof and mint sets that year and a seperate purchase was required for those who wanted to keep there sets up to date.
