As enjoyable as the first in the series
I didn’t expect to enjoy this one as much as I did the first in this series, but I did.

Fantastic read
I bought this book for my husband, who has read the last three in the series over 100 times. He has an old hardcover edition that contains the last three novels. He absolutely loved this book, just like the others. The short stories are absolutely fantastic, and the characters are beautifully engaging.

A very good book still
A very good book still. Maybe I don't love it quite as much as I did when I first read it in the 1990s, but I enjoyed reading it again anyway.I like fairytale type stories with complicated intertwined plotlines.

Good, but not as good as Night's Master
Descriptions are still lush and the stories in of themselves are clever as ever, but the whole package isn't as tight as Night's Master. There are two main reasons for this:-The narrative is less free form like the first book, which skipped along all over the place. This one has a far more chronological sequence and follows the same set of characters to the end. I enjoyed the anthology approach over this one, but some people might be the opposite.-Death's Master, the entity himself, is far less entertaining than Azhrarn, Night's Master. His personality fits the aspect of Death very well, but he wasn't as thrilling to read about for an entire book as the Night's Master. All that being said, this was a wonderful book. Its beginning is the weakest aspect, but it only gets better and better. The end is full of so many ironies and cunning reversals, built up through the course of the book, that it makes the initially weaker parts look stronger in comparison, which is just a delight to read.

Where-In Death learns to garner some enjoyment from death itself
Easy read, read for this discriptors used by the author. It is kind of an overwhelming Nightmare with title making sense only at the very end. Recommended for anyone desiring a very strange, complex plot. Thanks, Harry!
