"This knife is now my go to yard tool", "Wow this is a seriously awesome gardening tool.", "If you have friends that are gardeners, this is a must gift!"The hori hori knife - also known as a soil knife - is a cross between a hand trowel and a knife - a powerful multiuse tool for digging, planting and also great as a weeder. The 7.5 inch (19cm) stainless steel blade has a mirror polish finish and unlike some hori knives, both edges are sharpened. There is a straight edge and a serrated edge - ideal to saw through tough roots (for instance when dividing clump forming perennials) and other landscaping and gardening jobs. The blade is a little longer than other digging knives, to give you that extra depth and purchase when digging. Its concave (slightly rounded) shape makes it perfect for scooping soil, and the blade is slightly offset to give extra leverage.Allows for precision cutting of turf, reducing disruption to a minimum (very important for metal detecting)The Sensei Hori Hori garden knife has a tough black contoured and textured handle which fits perfectly in your hand - much more secure and easier to use than wood handle knives - so that you have a firm grip that never slips. The blade has a depth scale marked on one side, so you know exactly how deep you're digging - especially useful when planting bulbs. NEW - Now comes with an improved real leather sheath (with belt loop) for storage and carrying. Also ideal for archaeology, camping, hunting, fishing, metal-detecting or any other outdoor activities. The Sensei Hori Hori comes with a 90-Day 100% NO-QUIBBLES MONEY BACK GUARANTEE - so order now with complete certainty of satisfaction. What our customers say: "wow, this thing works wonders!", "Sensei's hori hori knife is almost the only gardening tool you need!", "I was so impressed this gardening knife. It has made my gardening so much easier. I love it so much!"

I like the feel of it in my hand
I did buy this knife after asking a series of questions all which were answered quickly and honestly. I am skeptical because it is made in Taiwan as opposed to Japan; enough said on that, you can draw your own conclusions. Moving on to another note, yes it is very sharp and the blade is suppose to be stainless steel-time will tell, it is made in Taiwan. So far, I like the feel of it in my hand, it is balanced enough for my comfort; I am not an expert on knives, but I have developed a feel for them since I do garden almost daily. This Hori Hori knife is replacing one that arrived dull right out of the box, felt heavy, unbalanced and very clumsy, with it's hard wooden handle providing absolutely no ergonomics for the palm whatsoever from day one. I hate it, I hated using it every time because I could never ever sharpen it and would slip easily when force was added-which was every time I had to cut with it; I wish I would have returned it when I first got it-junk. I hate wasting my money on "junk." It is garbage compared to this one by "Sensei"-who I have not heard of until now. Does anyone know anything about this manufacturer? In sum, the ergonomics of this handle is the best I have come across; it is really comfortable due to its light -yet strong- weight. I personally enjoy the groove they've added atop cented for my fingers to rest aiding my hand for an even further determined grip preventing a nasty accidental slip; My fingers wrap around it fitting my palm like a custom made glove. It just feels good in my hand. I have never experienced support for my hand in the garden like this before with any yard tool making my "work" almost painless. I love it and encourage you to try it, it is worth the little more they ask in price. I believe they allow you thirty days to use it. Don't worry, I am convinced that you probably won't be returning it. After all, you get what you pay for.If someone out there knows more on the balancing part, please share. I think it is well balanced, but I would like to read someone else's opinion for comparison. The knife is made in Taiwan which means that the raw material is from China. I was skeptical at first due to the lack of workmanship and quality that these parts of the world produce. But since the USA makes "nothing" any longer, I must give materials made in such parts of the world a chance to prove themselves (I have little choice); as they well have with this favorite new lawn tool of mine.Oh, I almost forgot to share; be careful with the carrying case, the blade is very sharp and will easily cut the case like hot butter. I cut mine on the first use not aware of the hazard. I see now why the competition offers a hard plastic case as opposed to a soft. Makes all the sense in the world. Here, look at what will happen if you are not careful holstering your new Hori Hori Knife. It is razor sharp-make no mistake.I have been punishing this knife brutally in my yard and it has held up very strongly. Surprisingly enough, it has also remained just as sharp as it arrived right out of its shipping package. I added a picture and if you look carefully, you will see evidence of the work it has already endured. The one above it is junk-do not buy it-you will regret it. To repeat, Its horrible: heavy, will not hold its sharpness, handle is a brutt, feels clumsy when put to work, slips so very easily from your palm causing unnecessary injuries.I absolutely hate it and wished I had never purchased it. Buy the one bottom. Your money will be well invested, I hope it is the last Hori Hori knife I have to buy for a long, long time.Orlando

Great durable knife
Look this knife. Used it for everything yard work. And yet still worked strong after 5 years. Just ordered my second. Blade was beginning to go dull. Looking forward to the next 5 years

Great for digging and cutting. Use this all the time instead of a garden spade

After modifying the handle, this is an excellent garden tool that can do everything!
Caution to gentle gardeners, this is just as dangerous as using a 7.5 inch knife; at least on the serrated side. So for example, if you're easily distracted, you might stick with a regular spade that has dull edges, because the serrated edge is SHARP!The 7.5 inch blade is long enough to get under stubborn weed roots and has a narrow enough width to stab into hard dirt, like a knife. The serrated edge IS a knife that rips though thick cardboard, zip ties, small branches, or anything else you would use a knife for. The flat edge isn't sharpened, but has a thin edge which is good for scraping things without worrying about dulling a knife's edge. The metal is thick and the construction is sturdy enough to use your foot on the handle for leverage without any bending or worrying about breaking it. I've read that the blade tang is only 2.5 inches into the plastic handle, but after using it, I think it will be very difficult to break this product. The polished metal makes cleaning very easy; such as swishing it around in a water bucket for a few seconds to make it look brand new again. The only downside is that the handle has deep inset 'channels' on either side which is annoying, causes weird grips and plenty of 'hotspots' for hand blisters. I thought about returning this because of the handle, but I was able to add foam into the 'channels' and end of the handle which makes it more comfortable to hold and press down on. After that, I wrapped medical tape around everything for extra grip and comfort. But again, if I wasn't able to add more comfort to the handle I would have returned this product.I did consider the full tang versions of the hora hora, but they all come with blocky wood handles that seem to be just as uncomfortable as this handle. If you're willing to spend about $40 dollars, the "Barebones" hora hora with a walnut handle looks comfy and stylish.Bottom line: If you don't mind modifying the handle, this should become your favorite 'do anything' garden tool.

A hori hori knife, the most versatile garden tool!
A nicely balanced knife with an ergonomic handle. It's also very sharp. My other knife had the serrations on what appeared to be the wrong side for a right-handed user, but this one is perfect with the serrated edge at the bottom when the concave surface is facing the user. The company also sent a nice user guide by email. I haven't had a chance to use the hori hori n the garden because the ground is just starting to thaw here in MN. I will give an update after I do some garden work. Elizabeth S.Update: Love this tool and I reach for it first over everything in my extensive gardening arsenal. Great for planting, weeding, dividing, sawing roots. I also like the fact that the blade is shiny. It helps me find it in the garden. My other one, which is dark steel I am always losing in my garden and it's difficult to find. Highly recommend this item.

This is one serious and well made Hori Hori
I am a garden designer, and professional gardener. I have been looking for the hori hori of my dreams. Recently I spotted this one, and finally made it mine. It has a hard plastic handle which will clean well...........and not get funky like bamboo or wood. This baby has some serious heft to it, and SHARP..........Oh yeah, it is SHARP. Nice serrated edges which will saw through hosta clumps, etc. On the flip side there is a nice measuring ruler which marks out up to 6"...........this would be terrific for gauging the depth of bulbs. This is made by a small family business who obviously take a lot of pride in this product. Glad I purchased it.
