Get the FACTS! Not pure Stevia. (for the web)
This product contains dextrose (GMO corn) and erythritol (also, GMO corn). It is made by the Cumberland Packing Co, the same company that makes Sweet ‘n’ Low, which contains toxic saccharin. “Stevia in the Raw” uses the Rebiana, and a sugar alcohol called erythritol. Rebiana is the trademarked name for rebaudioside A (Reb-A), a steviol glycoside that is thought to be responsible for the sweet taste of Stevia. It takes a 42-step procedure to derive Rebiana. This process of extraction, which is patented by Coca-Cola and deemed a safe sweetener by the FDA, is chemically driven, using acetone, acetonitrile, methanol, ethanol and isopropanol for extraction and likely starts with genetically modified stevia leaves. Rebiana is a chemically modified form of stevia — it is NOT pure stevia. There have been concerns about Rebiana being a “mutagen”, defined as any substance that may alter genes. Either way, the Rebiana is NOT real stevia, but a chemically altered extract of the stevia plant. And therefore, “Stevia in the Raw” is not real stevia or raw stevia. Will be throwing out what I have left and NOT buying again.

Best sugar substitute for taste
For several years now, STEVIA IN THE RAW has been my sweetener of choice. It has no off-taste to it, which other sweeteners have. Primarily I use it for tea, lemonade, and my strong dark roast coffee (with lots of half & half). As a diabetic, I have eliminated any use of granulated or powdered sugar, and sought something more natural than other substitutes. Until I give up entirely any sweet taste, this is my GO-TO product. Local groceries carry it, but Amazon makes it so easy to have in two days, I can avoid the grocers for two weeks.

Raw about Stevia in the Raw
I see no logical reason to buy this product. This is a big bag of Maltodextrin with some unknown amount of actual Stevia added. This product would be much worse than table sugar for a diabetic to use. I have no idea of the taste, because I don't want that significant a hypoglycemic spike (twice that of processed sugar). Once it arrived and I was horrified by the label contents. I then found out that even unopened, one day after arrival, it was not returnable. Be sure when you buy a Stevia labeled product, that you read the ingredients labels. A lot of games are being played with products that only contain trace amounts of real Stevia. Buyer beware

Pretty good artificial sweetener
Stevia has a slightly bitter aftertaste and in my opinion, therefore, isn't quite as close to a good sugary taste as say Splenda. However, I pick Stevia because Splenda has a lot of chemically/covalently bound chlorine. This isn't the same a chlorine in salt (sodium chloride), in which the chloride is a normal ion circulating in our blood stream and within our cells. This is bound chlorine, within a substance which must get broken down in the liver. Chemically bound halogens (chlorine, fluorine) tend to have some liver toxicity. Carbon tetrachloride and chloroform are examples. It's entirely possible that small quantities of Splenda are OK. But since I don't know the long term effects of Splenda, I mostly avoid consuming it. Stevia safety also has no definitive scientific backing--e.g. controlled studies of long term effects, but at least it is derived from a natural plant which has been ingested by people for thousands of years. So, to me, it is likelier to be safe in modest quantities.Other reports suggest that artificial sweeteners may change our intestinal microbial flora. This may be important, but as far as I can tell, this seems to be dose dependent, so modest consumption appears reasonable to me.

Contains maltodextrin, NOT FOR DIABETICS
This is untrue - it also contains maltrodextrin, which is horrible for diabetics. HORRIBLE.“NATURAL SUGAR ALTERANTIVE – Contains zero calories and does not use additional ingredients to change the naturally delicious flavor of the stevia extract.” False advertising. Why is it in bulk packages, but not single use packets ? What is wrong with you people ?
