I have an ashtray very similar in design to this one but it doesn't have a lid. I use it on my front covered porch. I love the design so much that I ordered this because it had a lid. I wanted an ashtray for my back porch that is uncovered. This is a heavy ashtray, so it won't get blown over by the wind. It also has a center pedestal with a disk on top (you can unscrew the pedestal from the base for cleaning) on which you can rest your cigarette so it doesn't fall into the ashtray.The main problem is that the top leaks at the knob. When I opened the ashtray after a rain, there was some water on the inside pedestal disk, which means I couldn't rest my cigarette on it. The manufacturer should have included a rubber washer to prevent water from entering. It's not a deal breaker; I can get a washer.I have had several ashtrays, and this design is my favorite. It's deep, so you can put many cigarettes in it and the wind won't blow your cigarettes about. The notches hold the cigarette butts firmly. Once I fix the top, it'll become the perfect ashtray for both indoors and out, rain and shine.

This is heavier than any of the other ashtrays we’ve used. If you live in a high rise and need an ashtray that won’t fly away this is a good option. The non-slip bottom is good if you plan to use this indoors. I think the knob on the inside is there so that you can put your cigarette out. I don’t love that idea. I think it can get really messy trying to clean out ashtray with that knob in there. You can just remove the knob- not a deal breaker.I think the design looks sleek. It’s not the best option for heavy smokers though. My fiancé used to smoke a pack a day and he could easily fill it up in a couple of days. I think it would have been better for heavy smokers if the astray was wider on the top.This is better than the push down ashtrays with the spin tops. Those freeze in the wintertime and overflow when it rains too much. They have to be replaced a couple times a year. This one seems a lot more durable. Overall, good ashtray.

This ashtray is SO much nicer and bigger than I expected, it is highly polished attractive Stainless Steel with a stylish Lid to keep down the odor when not in use!! IT is perfect for a large outdoor party....put out a few where you want to herd the smokers and you don't have to worry about emptying it for the entire party (unless you have a whole lot of chain smokers there)..... It would take me a week or two to fill this up.....but I can't stand butts in an ashtray so I empty often (after every two or three butts!! This is a very pretty piece that could just sit on a shelf or table with the top on...looks like a silver container, can't even tell it is an ashtray!!! I really like this, Very nice quality!!! We don't smoke, but we have close family (and some friends) who do. I've kept a jar on our deck for smokers to use, but it is unsightly and obvious.This ashtray is quite an upgrade. The lid hides the used cigarettes while keeping rainwater out. Inside the ashtray is a raised surface for putting out cigarettes. It's easy to empty as needed. It tends to go several days without being used, so I simply keep it in a sheltered part of the deck where it stays dry but is easy to access when we do have visitors who smoke.

I was surprised and delighted to see how well built and sturdy this lidded ashtray is. My husband smokes an occasional cigar, but we also have visitors who smoke and we ask that they smoke outside. This ashtray with a lid allows me to leave it outside without worrying about an ashtray full of rain water or a soggy mess to clean up later. Nice looking, very sturdy, weighted enough so it doesn't move around or blow over in bad weather.
