Excellent early intermediate pieces
This is a very nice collection of "early intermediate" pieces. There are not many easier nocturnes among the classic composers, these were designed to eventually work one's way up to the Chopin nocturnes (which are mostly RCM level 8-10). I would put nocturnes 1 and 8 at the RCM 1 level, the others are likely RCM 2 to 3/4. Probably for someone with close to one year of piano experience. Very high quality music at a relatively easier level. Great to use as repertoire pieces to supplement method books. The author has YouTube videos playing and talking about each piece to preview before buying the book.

Love this!
Love this! Dennis Alexander doesn't disappoint. If you look at his videos, he explains how this book was written to help less acomplished pianists to approach Chopin. This is me. I am very happy with this book. These Nocturnes are written in a progression, from easiest to hardest (mostly) and they sound like they build on each other. I particularly love #4- to the end...with the last being my favorite, i think. Lyrical and lovely, with just that little stridency that gives a compelling Chopin-ish feel. Even my one of my sons told me, I keep thinking that is Chopin, but have not heard it before...Thank you for something really lovely to play...and i do play them late at night. No complaints from the family, though everyone is in bed. :)

Good for sight reading
Some pieces start beautifully and have terrible transitions. This book is so-so.
