Great used books
I am impressed with the quality of my used book, no tears and no pages missing. The perfect size for my backpack! I was just going to rent the book for the semester but I'm glad I bought it instead. The textbook is very interesting and informative.

Excellent Resource
As a white student in an African-American Literature class, this book helped me to understand a different culture. I learned from the stories, as well as the background information provided about the authors.

Buy used not worth full price
This book is full of writings and stories that should be in the public domain for free but due to the properties being owned by Norton allows them to hold a monopoly on classic writing by renewing the copywrite even though they did not write the material within. With the small rant out of the way we can get into the meat of the actual review. this book is exactly what the title says an anthology of African American literature from slavery to about the time of the civil rights movement. There are a number of wonderful stories and songs written in this book that deserve to be expanded upon more by more qualified individuals. But I would only recommend this book to people in an African American lit course or if you have an interest in African American literature as a whole.
