Expensive, but BEST control 'paste' out there
I've used this stuff for years (16?) And have TRIED to find a cheaper alternative but they always end up in the trash. Don't let the lightness and delicate mousse-like texture fool you.. When you use it to style or give height to your hair, that hair isn't going anywhere! The key is to use a very small amount (about the size of a dime) and work it into the crown of your hair where you want heights or want your hair to look "piecey". I only use it once on clean hair after I have washed it and then the effect of it helps to hold my hair until I wash it again. It is absolutely the best If you need control product to help, give your hair height and fullness. Be sure to apply it to dry hair. It is amazing!!

Great definition and holding ability
I love this hair product because it gives me the definition I want. I would caution that you use just a small amount at a time as a little goes a long way, and if you use too much, it makes your hair "gloppy."

Good, if you find what's right for YOU
I am general happy with the product. I don't have anything to compare it to because I only started using this type of product recently. Some people have asked about (or mentioned) the 'thickness' of it. If you apply it sparingly, I haven't found that to be much of an issue. You do have to find that balance between 'What's too much and what's not enough'... but different people will feel different ways about that. I would say that, once you've found the proper balance, it seems to perform well.

Light version of finishing product. Very nice.
This is a lighter version of the Shaping Wax by Aveda. It works the same but not as heavy. I prefer the wax because my hair is unmanageable but my mom uses this version and completely loves it. The smell is a nice organic, smell not like perfume at all. You apply by scooping some out with your fingers, rubbing between your hands and then run through your hair (DRY). It contains all those flyaways and just makes your hair have that nice finished look. Washes out beautifully.

Not bad, but nothing special
I was persuaded to buy this at my local salon, figuring I'd give it a try since the stylist had used it on my hair; it seemed like a promising product. First thing I found kind of hard to ignore was the price tag - at around $24 it's not cheap! (Then again AVEDA products never are, right?) I bought it anyway. This 'Defining Whip' appealed to me because the name implies a lightweight, natural hold. The packaging is fine, although it's kind of messy and unsanitary to have it in a pot (as opposed to a pump or squeeze bottle). The scent is pretty strong, almost overpowering. It smells intensely of lavender, but it may not bother some people. All AVEDA products smell extremely herbal, so you have to like that because it does linger. The consistency is very nice - creamy (yet not greasy-feeling) and 'whipped' as indicated. I had hoped that using this to separate my layers and define my ends would give me that coveted 'my-hair-just-looks-incredible-without-any-effort-at-all' look. Unfortunately the reality of the situation left me underwhelmed. While it did seem to give my layered style some definition, it did not hold the look for longer than, I'd say, about an hour. It also was not as "weightless" as I'd have preferred. By the end of the day, my hair felt heavy and sticky even. I wash my hair every other day, and I found it difficult not to shampoo before going to bed because my hair felt 'icky.' I've used this on my hair when it was both very short and quite long - it seemed to do more for my shorter hair. I think this product might be workable for a choppy pixie cut, or even a graduated bob style. But I wouldn't personally recommend it for hair that's any longer than shoulder length, because it does weigh it down. I should point out that my natural hair texture is thick, wavy, and somewhat coarse (typical Asian hair) and I'm admittedly not much of a 'product' person. Still, I wasn't impressed with this particular product.

Matte, Versatile Styling Cream
Not cakey, not greasy, not stiff but the perfect amount of hold with a fantastic smell! A jar will last me 6 months easy. I always order my Aveda products on Amazon and always get a quality authentic product. This stuff isn't a palmade, gel or anything like that. It's like a cream or thick lotion...put a small amount in your hands and work it in. It doesn't get spikey or hard but the holding power is strong.

I have been using this product for a few years now and love it .You only need to wipe your fingers across it and massage it into your hair to adjust your hair into position you want . If I am going out in the evening I put it on again to give it extra volume and very manageable hair . There is also a wax in the same range which I am not keen on as it smells of brylcream and is completely different . I have accidentally bought it in error . I have recommended this whipping cream to my sisters who all love it too . Also it lasts for months and months .

Love this product keeps my hair moist without being greasy. A bit pricey so I'm using it sparingly, but will definitely buying it again.
