useful for cactus growers.
I ordered this after watching a video from some cactus growers in Ireland( Cactimania and Desert plants Of Avalon) who advocate using equal parts regular potting soil, Pumice, and lava rock. Ireland is a very humid place, so a very well draining soil is needed to to prevent root rot in cacti and succulents. Cactimania also uses lava rock as a top dressing on his pots. After using this for about six months, I've found it a very useful soil additive to my cactus soil. I've also found it works very well as a top dressing. Previously, I had used 1/4" quartz gravel for top dressing, but that has become rather hard to find in my area. I find that lava rock works even better.I intend to make this a permanent component of my potting supply shelf.

Important for drainage
Expensive, but I need it. I mix this with Hoffman Cactus Soil. Ratio is 5/1 (soil/lava). I've noticed a distinct difference among my dwarf sansevieria in a short period of time. Coloring is more pronounced in the variegation and leaves shinier. Growth is slightly more rapid, though sansevieria tend to be slow growers. I think this will do the trick to avoid root rot caused by soggy soil. Root rot is one of the few ways you can kill these tough plants.

Great quality!!! Way better then AA shop lava rocks.
Price is a little expensive but well worth it. Nice small clean rocks! I originally ordered with AA shop lava rock. What I got from them was not the size advertised. A bunch of big rocks as in 2inch+ mixed in with smaller ones. Package was super dusty and dirty compared to these rocks. They even included a cool little tool to help un root, move soil or rock, ect. Defiantly worth the extra money :)

Just what I was looking for!
My plants have been a breeding nest for gnats and I have been looking for something to put on top of my plants to keep the gnats away. I came across this product from an article online and gave it a try. I’m glad I did. It just doesn’t look aesthetically beautiful but it also kept the gnats away. It also came with a free chopstick for plant care. Very good customer service too! Will purchase again 😊

I was hoping it would cover the soil in my water lilies that I just re-planted. Probably should have gotten more because a lot of soil escaped. I won't really know until spring if my water lilies thrive.

Excellent lava rock
I use this soilless substrate along with a mix of Akadama and Pumice, using different ratios, but usually between 25%-40% is this lava rock. I like it so much because it gives the soil structure and doesn’t break down at all, so it can be reused. It holds a bit of water along with providing excellent aeration and drainage. This brand doesn’t have much dust, so very little is wasted. I will continue to use this lava rock with all of my Bonsais.

Great topper for moisture retention and fighting fungus gnats
I purchased this after reading that some houseplant owners use it as a topper to combat fungus gnats. It's a little thick and coarse for plants that like the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings but it's really great for those that like consistently moist soils like my calatheas. Plus you get a lot for the price so it's a really good value!

Great product
I like this lava rock a lot, I use it as part of my succulent and cactus mix to add drainage. It’s beautiful as a top dressing as well. I’ve bought this product several times and it’s always a good buy!
