Good potential but an important bad
I wanted to like this collar. It looks nice, seems like it will offer good protection and appears well made. It generally gets good reviews and isn't very expensive. But the manufacturer omitted one very important step - there are no instructions. Now I realize that seems like a silly complaint. After all, don't you just put it over your head under your helmet? Not exactly. The manufacturer provides holed tabs in the back to attach it to your chest protector and an additional one on the side to help keep it from spinning while you ride, also to be attached to your chest protector. They even provide chicago screws. But what they don't provide is info on how to attach it. I own the very chest protector this is supposed to be compatible with - The EVS Vex. The packaging simply says to connect it. Should be a 5 minute or less job, right? There are no holes to connect it. So I reason they want me to remove the existing chicago screws for the shoulder guards. But those are on so tight, I can't remove them with a heavy duty screwdriver and vice grips. The metal is so soft, the screw is distorting. I have a better chance of the screw disintegrating under the pressure of the screwdriver than it coming off the way it should. Maybe that's why they give you replacement screws. But why is something that should take 5 minutes taking me an hour or more? I googled, checked youtube for videos - apparently there is some kind of motorcross chest protector/neck collar knowledge that is passed down by generations of motorcycle riders required to do this simple job. Or maybe some special tool everyone else already has. But I maintain you shouldn't have to join a club, buy a book, write a letter or complain in a review for something that should be drop dead simple. Now excuse me while I go waste more time trying to come up with a solution. #idratherberiding
