Here is the information you need when deciding to purchase this item.
The markings on this entire tape is in 1/16" increments. The background color is yellow. The increment tics are black. The upper edge has markings in feet and inches. The lower edge shows only inches. So the upper edge has as the maximum reading 25 feet while the lower edge has a maximum reading of 300 inches. The last foot (or 12 inches) has warnings to stop pulling out more tape. On the upper edge the inches are in red numbers and every foot is indicated by a yellow number on a black arrow. On the lower edge the numbers are black except every 16 inches has the inch number in yellow on a red rectangle. There are also tiny tick marks (a black diamond about 1/16" on a side) marking every 19.4 inches. These little black diamonds are small enough not to be too noticeable (which I like since I never intend to use them) but they are there in case they are needed. Another feature is the back side of the tape is printed exactly as the front side and both sides have a matt finish. When one pays out tape it automatically is snubbed so it does not rewind. Sliding the control slide allows the tape to reel in.For my taste it's a great tape measure. What I dislike about Amazon's description is much of the detailed information is missing. Perhaps this description will help someone make an informed decision about buying this product.

Working Better Than Stanley Tape Measures
First time I've purchased anything from the Etronic brand and so far, so good. I needed to replace a 10 year old Stanley tape measure of a similar size that had stopped working properly a long time ago and at first I went to Home Depot and reluctantly bought another Stanley but with the "leverlock" feature. That tape measure didn't last 2 minutes. The leverlock feature did not work consistently or reliably and the first time I fully extended the blade, the whole thing came out from the housing and could not be put back in. I returned it the same day and decided no more Stanley products, at least for tape measures.I've been using the 12' Etronic tape measure regularly for over a week now and have had no issues at all. The overall feel and build quality is quite satisfactory. The autolock feature works fine and I've found the magnetic hook to come in handy. If I ever need another tape measure, I will consider Etronic at this point, if not the Komelon brand which I already have for a 25 footer.

Recoil too fast, blade whips around wildly, the end of tape gets bent from the rapid recoil and the recoil button in a bad place
Decent tapes but a little quirky and at times, painful:Pro:- Double sided markings. I really like that feature and having the inch/foot scale on both sides of the tape allows better visibility in tight spaces- Good ergonomics - the tapes feel solid in the hand- The small lanyard is helpful for fishing the tape from a tool belt pocket or hanging on a nail on a wall- The tape stays in place when pulled out and recoils fast - too fast actually- Double magnets on the flat hook - holds solid on metal drywall edgesCon:- No metric markings- Other tapes I own the recoil activation button on the bottom of the tape and these have that button on the top/front. What makes that a "con" is these tapes recoil so fast the blade whips around wildly and has popped me on the thumbnail a few times and it hurts like hell. It's also an eye hazard, especially with the thinner tapes like the 12 footers.- The fast recoil also causes the end of the blades to bend - two of my 12 foot tapes have bent ends. (see photo)

No initial signs of poor design or extremely low quality
It is a basic tape measure. I have not used it yet but it seams to work as indicated. No initial signs of poor design or extremely low quality. So for that, I am satisfied. My primary complaint is about the packaging. I purchased through a big box store, AKA Amazon. The packaging does not need to be bulky, fancy, be large for marketing purposes, or anti-theft devices.By the time I see it for the first time, I already own it. I do not need to be sold, that is what the website is for. Simplify the packaging. Now I have a bunch of GARBAGE that I must throw away due to wasted marketing efforts. Now the real reason why I am writing. While trying to get this cheap tape measure from the packaging, I had to use a knife to cut through the infamous frustration packaging. Even with a knife, it still took a bit of effort. During that effort, the newly cut plastic sliced open my finger! Thanks Etronic. From now on, I will avoid products that are not listed as frustration-free packaging.

Lightweight, Small Tape
I'm a building inspector and need a tape measure in the field occasionally. Don't need the 1" wide x 25' long anymore and this is small enough to carry in a pocket in my safety vest and not have to carry the big, bulky tape on my belt anymore because I rarely have to measure anything over 6'8". Also like the auto brake feature.

I like this one
This Etronic replaced another brand that one day refused to retract & so needed to go. So far I like this one better in all respects. It works more smoothly & quietly, & retracts in a good way - I never have the feeling it will suddenly snap & decide to take my fingers off. I like the magnetic feature at the end & I really like that you can see the measurement on both sides of the tape. I'm pleased with my purchase. Thank you!

Cheap blade
I purchased this tape to use every day in construction. I pulled it out if the box and tested it to see how far I could extend it without it giving in. I got to about 6.5'. I pressed the button to retract the blade and it came in fast. Too fast. I pulled it out once more and noticed the blade had permanently bent right around the 1' mark. I immediately contacted the seller and they refunded me for the purchase. From my perspective, this tape is bulky and probably won't last long if you use it everyday.

Flimsy
I know i only paid 6.99 for the product, but i'd hoped it would be worth something. This is hard to pull out, and when i do it's so flimsy that it falls down in my face, or just folds over, the magnets aren't worth a darn either. Absolutely not worth the money.

This is a great product - durable
This is a great product - durable, high quality. The reeling mechanism is reversed compared to most other tape measures, however - and that throws me off every time I use it. What I mean is that the tape stays extended unless you push the button on the front which reels it in when held. Most others would automatically spring back unless you use a locking mechanism positioned in that same place. So just be aware that your natural reflexes to lock it may catch you when you use it.

Great gift for grandsons.
I gave these as gifts to my 2 great grandchildren aged 5 & 7 who kept asking , "how long is this ? ". They love them and measure everything in sight. Which speaks well for the durability of the tapes.

Pretty much everything I wanted in a tape. Like the pull out and stop feature; the writable tape, holds span, and accuracy. Not sure how it will stand up but looks good so far.
