Overheats, and is not genuine . Possible fire hazard
I had high hopes for this charger . However, it’s not an authentic Asus charger. I believe that this is an important problem as low quality Chinese knock-off copies of Asus power adapters can potentially overheat or malfunction and pose a severe fire danger. They are typically made from low-quality materials, the internal circuitry is simple and lacks adequate safety (over-current, over-temperature and short-circuit protection), some kind of product quality control appears to be non-existent. Power ratings on these items are made up of thin air, since these adapters are not capable of delivering near-announced power. Don't let the appearance of the connector or even the Asus logo on the sticker confuse you, the counterfeiters are the easiest thing to copy, but as you can see; the devil is in the information. Most people won't pick up these discrepancies, but this shows how easy it is to trick people with a cheap and fake replacement laptop charger. The fake, too, weighed a lot less than the real.Secure Laptop Chargers: Why is this relevantThis isn't shocking now. At the end of the day any electrical system will fail (a fact of life), but some are made better than others. For example, it costs more to manufacture a charger with thicker cables. People don't like weight, so fakes are made to be as slim as possible to make them light and minimize costs as well. That's good until the rope break happens and the sparks are sent off!!It is also more costly to manufacture a charger to comply with the Limitations on Hazardous Materials (RoHS) regulations. However many manufacturers have flouted this in order to make their goods cheaper – again there is a real danger of purchasing a cheap fake replacement laptop charger. And OEM Chargers are of low qualityFinally, it is worth reminding everyone that even some OEM chargers can often not always of course) be of low quality. Take the example of a poor boy who was burned by an official laptop charger last month. Obviously, chargers must be manufactured to a minimum safety level, but many manufacturers do not make them higher than that standard.Manufacturers make money on their own laptops, not on their own chargers (perhaps except for Apple who charge significantly more for their chargers. Incidentally, our Apple laptop charger tips are compatible with both MagSafe and MagSafe 2 if you need one, and is cheaper than the Apple store). That's why they want to make their chargers as cheap as possible. It's not surprising, therefore, if one fails.Security features of good replacement laptop chargersA few of the safety features you need to be aware of when you purchase a new replacement laptop charger:Thick wiring. This will make the charger heavier, but also means that the cables are more resistant to damage. However, no matter how thick the cable is if you bend it sometimes and the gap is noticeable, replace it! It's never a good idea to have wiring exposed, no matter how good or bad a charger is. However, if you had to pick, always opt for a power supply with thicker cables.Heavy charger device, stone. This is because one of the key safety features of universal laptop chargers is a number of layers of plastic separating the circuitry from the outside. There are more of these layers in more costly and safer chargers, as well as extra surge protection (which can break your charger, of course, but a lot better than breaking your laptop!).When purchasing a charger, look for a trustworthy and legitimate Amazon-based business that is distributed by Amazon or a licensed re-distributor.Mind, too that cheap chargers are almost always cheap for a reason. Sometimes they won't have a brand name because nobody really wants their name to be connected to a dubious product. At the end of the day any charger that appears to be a genuine or OEM charger but looks really cheap is always just a fake – and even the real ones may often be of shoddy quality. In other words, but directly from a Asus authorized reseller, or directly from Amazon.com (ships and sold from Amazon)(Just my two cents) Stay safe!
