9.6-inch Tanto Fixed Blade Knife, Tactical 9Cr18Mov Steel Katana Blade, G10 Handle, for Outdoor Survival Camping Hunting

This is not a knife for a novice getting a feel for combat blades. The knife is razor sharp and has a specific fitting in the plastic sheath which, we will discuss. The knife is exquisite, polished well, with a sturdy handle that avoids encumbering the handling of the blade. This is not a "Cold Steel" produced big block of metal with an unsharpened blade and bulky handle. The weight point is well balanced, as is the weight of the weapon. The knife can best be described using the lyrics of Tom Waits who described a small gun as "Fitting like a Jaybird in the hand." Jaybirds are mean and deadly, but light as light can be...The blade and construction of this blade is unapologetically what it is... a blade designed to kill. Nothing ornate, no blade guard, much like the Scottish Dirk... a blade, a handle, and little else... but Oh what a blade! and Oh what a handle! I would not call this blade a "Tanto" because the blade on a Tanto has a separate cutting surface on the front point of the blade, but this weapon is a Japanese blade with a curve that is just right... not to much curve, and not too straight. This feature is an integral part of Japanese philosophy regarding weapon production... We want enough curve to follow the cut as the wrist completes, something a straight blade cannot achieve.To appreciate this Japanese doctrine of blade production and use, hold the blade reverse, and gently (Gently!!!) slide it up the middle of your body, barely touching if at all. Notice how the blade will contour, even to the point of following the line of the throat and chin. Now imagine the efficiency of cutting with this contour. Furthermore, compare the same process to a straight blade and notice the difference.There is a mechanism for drawing this blade as one would draw a katana: using the thumb to press and dislodge followed by unsheathing. BUT be careful because there is little room for error when drawing the thumb back. Kudos for the manufacturer for putting that thumb space on the weapon, with caveats... I would only encourage those familiar with drawing a legit Japanese sword to use this fitted area. One could split the thumb open. Also: it might have been better to put this thumb press on the bottom of the sheath because, one has to push down, and turn the hand position before unsheathing the blade.This blade is a formidable weapon... it is not to take on your camping trip and cut cheese, Bush craft some twigs... Though of course it can be used as one sees fit. I would just say... I love my Toyota Previa and it rocks on the road... But it does not belong on the windy roads the same way as a BMW M3. Also legally the length might be prohibitive in your state... Nuff said on that one. Enjoy but handle with care.

Well as a bladed weapon collector who owns several extremely high end knives and swords ( including a 4000$ Damascus dagger) I gotta say I was a lil skeptical about the low cost. I mainly wanted the kydex sheath model both for the sheath and because it has a traditionally tapered point instead of an abrupt angle. The Tanto itself was a touch smaller than I expected BUT quality is outstanding. It’s not only an extremely thick and sturdy blade but is also full tang and SOLID. No give or space in the seams whatsoever, it could be a bit slippery in wet sweaty hands but overall a good texture for gripping and even better with light gloves. It may seem a bit skinny in larger hands but still offers plenty of handle area. Now to the edge and finish. I’m assuming it’s actually chrome plated instead of a simple high polish, but that will only serve to protect the blade further from rust or corrosion. As for the edge, I have never received a NEW blade THIS SHARP. It was literally face shaving sharp right out of the box. If you’re experienced handling extremely sharp weapons , then you will LOVE this Tanto, if you’re a bit clumsy, you’re gonna lose fingers. I especially like that the clip on the sheath is adjustable to many mounting positions, high , low, horizontal, and vertical. Only thing is for those who wear horizontal on the back, should look before sliding it back into the sheath so as not to remove a kidney in the process, but hey, as with ANY weapon, you’re never in a rush to put it back, only to draw, which it does effortlessly. One word of advice regarding ANY kydex type sheathes, NEVER slam the knife back in, always push firmly till you hear or feel the “snap” as it seats itself home, Jamming a weapon into these type of sheathes is WHY they sometimes get loose fitting and fail to retain the weapon. No worries tho, by removing the weapon then gently heating the opening area ( where it catches) , then applying some pressure, you can easily reform and retighten the mating area. All in all, superb quality, arrived fast, and a strikingly beautiful blade, If I were to change anything it would be to give the handle a bit more thickness and the blade, a couple inches more length. And maybe, MAYBE, a very small guard at the hilt to prevent the hand from sliding up the edge.

This is now my EDC and has proven useful, it came needing sharping being less then stellar but it took a nice edge once I put it on the stonesIt also feels good in the hand

Got a couple for my grandsons. Has a hard plastic sheath. Blade is sharp and they seem to like them.

This is a good fine work field knife, I skinned an entire deer with it and didn't need to sharpen it at all, its thick enough I am not worried about damaging it, and even if I did the thing was cheap, all in all, this is a good knife and don't listen to all the wierdo's talking about this being a fighting knife, it is not a fighting knife, if you want a fighting knife find something closer patterned to the Fairbairn style.

It came super sharp and feels nice. I bought this to try out wearing a fixed blade but I feel this is almost as good as an expensive knife. It may not have super steel that can cut nails, but this is good enough for personal defense.Kydex sheathis tight but good5 stars for the price point

I purchased it a couple of days ago and came in yesterday.. I didn't know what to expect since it was only $30 but after inspecting it and using it, it was well worth it the heat treat seems to be well enough ...9cr18mov is one of the best budget steals you can get easy to sharpen and holds its edge well.. The polish on it is good but I went ahead and polished it some more and it looks awesome.. over all it is well worth the $30

The steel used to make this knife was able to take a razor edge. The knife came to me very sharp and I was able to hone the edge with my Lansky ceramic hone to an incredible edge in less than fifteen minutes.I am very pleased with the quality and value of this knife.
