Great variety of perspectives and geography
What may not be immediately obvious about this collection is that it focuses on the time period known as "the golden age of hunting", from about fifty years before the turn of the 20th century to thirty years after. This was the era when much of the American west was still uncharted territory, and hunting was barely regulated, if at all. The pieces by Teddy Roosevelt, William Hornaday, etc. give a glimpse into the life of the explorer, settler, and hunter (often one and the same) of that day. The stories about Africa and Russia are also fascinating. Overall, a great anthology, covering a lot of geographic territory and human perspectives. The only thing I would've added (and the reason for docking it one star) is a story by or about native Americans, who were too big a part of the American landscape during this time period to have omitted.

This collection includes a few good ones, but also quite a few that I found a little obscure and hard to get through.
