Makes a good pan even better
My Paderno Heavy Duty Carbon Steel 11 Inch Frying Pan is great in virtually every way, except for the handle. Too thin and square-edged to be comfortable. The silicone handle made by Paderno was too expensive for my taste, so I bought this one instead. It's great, adding bulk, insulation, softness and grippiness to the handle. Too bad it can't make the rather heavy pan lighter, especially when it's full of food, but you can't have everything.Note that the description says it's rated to 400ºF, just like silicone bakeware. That means that yes, you can put this in the oven to finish a dish, although under the broiler would obviously not be a good idea.I see other reviews that said it's hard to install, but I found it rather easy. The secret ingredient is patience. I didn't need oil, silicone spray or other lubricant that may turn rancid or attack the silicone rubber. Nor did I need to heat this up in hot water. Just take this and put it over the end of the handle, making sure you have the four finger indentations on the bottom and single thumb indentation on top. You can work it down about three inches rather easily. Then comes the serious work. I put a folded cloth towel down on my kitchen counter and rested the edge of the pan on it so the handle was pointed straight up at the ceiling. Wrapped both hands around the silicone cover and just pulled down, putting my weight on it, almost like I'm climbing a rope. You don't have to use all your strength or work it back and forth. Like I said, patience. It will slowly creep downward under your weight. You can stop, rest and check the progress. After about five minutes of moderate effort, it will be completely down over the steel handle and will never come off (which is why you want to be sure you get it the right way before you start). The hanging hole is a perfect match for the one on the handle so it looks almost like it came standard on the pan.

Permanent Fit
The large pan grip fits my Matfer Borgeat carbon steel pan handles. Don't even think about using the small or medium, regardless of the product descriptions suggestions of which size grip for which size handle. However, as noted in many other reviews, it goes on with difficulty and doesn't come back off because of how tight it is. This is a deal killer for my Matfer Borgeats, as I move them from stove to oven regularly. The ideal use of this grip (it is a nice product overall) would be with a pan that cannot go into the oven because of its handle (such as the standard line of De Buyer or Mauviel). For Matfers (and the pro line of De Buyers, which has oven-friendly handles), I found the slightly longer Lodge ASCRHH41 pan grip to be as good or better in comfort, grip, and heat protection. Most importantly, while snug, it comes off easily enough that I can move the pan from stove to oven.

Now it is firmly seated and looks like it will last a lifetime on the handle
I bought this silicone sleeve to fit on the handle of my DeBuyer "12 carbon steel skillet after I slightly burned my forearm recently, as it brushed by the hot handle. And yes, I did have a towel over the handle, but my forearm exposed enough of the handle to give me a 1" burn, nothing serious. I felt the silicone handle would help prevent future accidents from happening. The sleeve is made by DeBuyer so I knew it would fit, and it does. I soaked the handle in a pan of water from the hot water dispenser on our sink. I knew it would be a tight fit so I felt heating it up first would help me slide it on. After about 15 minutes of soaking, I put the pan up against my waist with the handle pointing away from me, and with two hands grabbed the sleeve, wrapped in a towel as it was hot hot, and pulled the sleeve towards me until it was completely on. Even with soaking I had to pull quite hard, but the sleeve slowly inched its way down until fully seated. Make sure before you begin to see the handle is right side up. There is a thumb indentation on the top, and finger indentations on the bottom so don't put it on upside down. Now it is firmly seated and looks like it will last a lifetime on the handle. No more accidental burns for me! Oh, by the way, I love the DeBuyer carbon steel brand, very well made.

Matfer owners take note
If you bought a Matfer Bourgeat Black Steel skillet and are looking for a silicone handle, this one works just fine.I got the 11-7/8" model, and this product (the large size) will probably work on similar De Buyer or Mauviel skillets. It is a tight fit, to be sure, and I needed a few drops of mineral oil on the end of the handle to get it fully seated. I would call this handle semi-permanent because getting it back off won't be easy. This product covers the Matfer's handle from the loop down to about 2 inches from the downward bend in the handle.Even with the heft of this skillet, this (large size) product gives you enough work room to choke down on the handle a little bit. Feels good and solid when I lift the pan, and this is exactly what I was looking for.The handle, as noted in other reviews, does NOT look exactly like the picture. The product has finger wells on the bottom and a thumb well on top. I think the new design is a little better, but what is pictured would have been fine too.

Not correctly sized.
Tried this one, recommended for 14-inch pans second after trying the medium size recommend for 12-inch pans on a new Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12-inch Round Griddle, the handle's I'd say at most, medium size for a 12-inch pan and considerably smaller in girth than my T-Fal also 12". Tried heating it to 250° in the oven first to loosen it up. There ain't no way this is going on the T-Fal. I got it on about an inch of the Calphalon, had to use a Crisco first. Finally took it to the garage, put the heat gun to it, then wrapped it loosely in duct tape, stuck it in the huge vise I have out there, got out some foam and with all my 285 lbs plus I pushed until I thought I needed a pill, but it went on. 5 stars if it would have gone on like it's supposed to. If you're average strength etc, don't even think of this for a 12" let alone 14" pan.

Great for pots with small handles
We have these older pots and pans made by Atlas that have these thin, heat conducting handles. All of the other silicone handle covers I have seen would be way too big, but these fit snugly over the handle and don’t move around at all. And they’re very well insulated - no more hot or burnt hands!

Too small. Ripped and fell off.
Does not fit a De Buyer pan handle.Edit: revised downwards. I managed with great difficulty to get it on the handle of the De Buyer pan, but it tore and fell off after a couple days.If it were larger, it might have been nice, but given that this is sold as a "large" handle cover and a De Buyer handle is pretty standard as far as steel pans go, I have to give it 1 star. It's hard to imagine what "large" pan has a handle small enough to fit this thing.

Won't fit Lagostina or Starfrits handles
The opening seems very small, and it definitely won't fit my Lagostina skillet for which I bought it, or my Starfrits. I am returning it.

Fits handle of deBuyer Carbon Steel pans
I bought this grip for the handle of a De Buyer 5610.24A 9.5" Mineral B Round Carbon Steel Fry Pan. The fit is quite tight, but applying a small amount of oil to the handle helps the grip to slide on more easily.

Does not fit my pan.
Did not fit my frying pan handle. Silicone rubber feels ok but I wished that it would fit. Plus it's much longer than expected.
