Meaningful & exciting!
I enjoyed Fear Itself though it wasn't as good as other crossovers. I've picked up most of the tie-ins, with a few of them being stand out reads. I found the Uncanny X-Men: Fear Itself tie-in to be inconsequential and expected the same here. I should have had more faith in Wolverine! This tie-in was excellent. The first half of the book follows Wolverine as he deals with a Helicarrier, stolen by mercenaries, that is now hovering over New York City. He and his girlfriend, a reporter, are on the ground trying to contain the madness and stop opportunistic villains from wreaking even more havoc when he gets the call from Captain America to deal with this new situation. I really don't know why I don't read Wolverine's solo series since his stories have been a stand out for every crossover I have read so far. He's fun, he's violent and he gets the job done. The second half of the book ties more directly into Fear Itself. Cyclops sends Dani Moonstar and the New Mutants to try and find the Asgardian Death Goddess Hela and seek her help. Only, it turns out that Hel itself is under assault and she needs them! I'm only vaguely familiar with these characters and still found this story to be utterly compelling. The action was incredible.Overall, this ended up being one of the best tie-ins for the event. Highly recommended!

Wolverine meets Dr Strangelove and the New Mutants meet a couple of Devils
Collecting: Fear Itself Wolverine #1-3New Mutants #29-32This graphic novel collects a Wolverine miniseries and a few issues from the ongoing New Mutants series. The only thing that links the two parts of this novel is the overarching Fear Itself crossover, so unfortunately Wolvie and the New Mutants aren't working together on this one. On the upside readers are treated to two relatively self-contained battles within the Fear Itself crossover, and both of them are worth a look. The Wolverine miniseries is probably the weaker of the two episodes contained here. The Asgardian serpent God of Fear is making everyone act crazy. This Asgard-induced delirium is particularly problematic when a covert ops team decides the serpent God's message is telling them to hijack a massive heli-carrier and drop nukes on NYC.Wolverine battles an enhanced team above the New York skyline in a race against the clock plot to prevent the bomb from being dropped. Meanwhile on the ground below Wolvie's girlfriend keeps her fans up to date with constant tweets. Of all the women in the Marvelverse, Wolverine found one with a twitter account...Ramblings by Melita aside, there is some fine Wolverine action here. From the opening battle with Scarecrow, to being tied to an atom bomb, to riding the bomb (Strangelove) to the ground below, the action is strong. This episode has a bare minimum of Fear Itself attached to it.The New Mutants on the other hand are chest deep in Asgardian politics. Dani is sent to get help from Hela, Asgardian Queen of the afterlife. But the Serpent God has unleashed ancient forces that have deposed Hela. The rest of the New Mutants convince Magik to give Cypher the spell to travel to Hel (Asgardian afterlife), but Doug mispronounces a word and the end up in the Judeo-Christian underworld--two L's.The meeting with the Lord of Lies was humorous. And the circuitous route to Hel was a funny detour. Once in Hel, however, it's all action. The New Mutants are indebted to one devil and saved a different one's backside. If you can put aside the sparse references to eight hammers and a few oblique references to what is happening with other superteams during this crossover, I think there is a surprisingly good story in each part of this novel. The wolverine story was very tangential, and I've read plenty of better Wolvie stories: 3-stars. The New Mutants avoided getting overly bogged down in the end-of-the-world rhetoric that is all over Fear Itself by taking a humorous field trip to Hell (two L's): 4-star story. If you are following the New Murants, this is a good buy. If you're interested in the wolverine story, I wouldn't recommend buying this novel unless you find a great bargain.

Tie-In
This is a Tie-in to the Fear Itself event, obviously. The first three issues are about Wolverine trying to stop some terrorists during this catastrophe. As usual, he handles it on his own. He is the best at what he does, after all. In the second story, the New Mutants try to get to Hel to enlist the help of Hela against Sin. Unfortunately, the team ends up in Hell, instead of Hel. One "L" makes all the difference. Neither story is amazing, but both are entertaining. Fans of Wolverine and/or the New Mutants should read this, but otherwise you can skip it. One note though: if you do read this, make sure to read Fear Itself first.

pass on this one
Not impressed. Sorry I spent my money on this collection. I disagree with other reviewers. The Wolverine issues were just okay. Entertaining enough but nothing special. And Wolverine's face?! If he weren't wearing his costume, I'd have never known it was him. I just couldn't get into the New Mutant issues.

As dissapointing as the rest of the Fear Itself storyline
Light on story, light on action... as usual for this extended debacle of a storyline. I don’t know why I keep hoping for better.
