..Schreier. I agree with Mr. O'Hanlon above that Kegel is a blessing. The early masses deserve the attention of first rateforces too. His soloists (notably Mitsuko Shirai), orchestra and chorus are excellent and his very fine Beethoven #s 4 and 5 (see my review)are not flukes. I enjoyed most his masses K139 (major precocity //k131), 192, 259 and k337 (the biggest surprise for its two wind drenched sections which adumbrate the Sinfonia Concertantek297B and the Incarnatus est of the C Minor mass). Philips erred, I think, in not including the Colin Davis Coronation Mass k317, the C Minor Mass and Requiem. I prefer the Davis k317 and k427 to Harrer'slistenable k317 and Gardiner's C Minor Mass (in which I think that the soloists-including the excellent SylviaMcNair- are more attractive than the period orchestra and fairly cold conducting). Another pleasant surprise: the Davis Credo Mass k257, all of which had not been included withhis C Minor Mass on CD. It is a bigger, more exultant work than its immediate neighbors-filled with tympani and brass and Davis responds accordingly. Helen Donath is wonderful as usual.Peter Schreier leads the great Dresden Staatskapelle and soloists including the indispensableMargaret Price in the CMM with relatively inconspicuous period features.The earlier organ sonatas are pleasant at most, but the later works-k594 and 616are excellent. K616 breathes Magic Flute ether (I also like Andras Schiff's recordingon a disc of short works including the great Variations k455.selected peers: Cleobury/Decca-Kl39, 167, 257, 317, 337 Davis/Philips/k317, 427 K317- Kubelik/DG, Marriner/Decca, Jochum/EMI K139-Abbado/DG K167-Munchinger/Decca k427-Grossmann/Vox, Leppard/EMI, Marriner/Decca, Fricsay/DG K626- Richter/Stader/Telefunken, Bohm/VSO/Stich-Randall/Philips (not his DG remake, Kempe/EMI, Marriner/Heltay/Decca (not his remake)

Leider wurde offensichtilich beim Abmischen bei den meisten tracks der rechte Kanal ca. 6dB im Vergleich zum linken Kanal vermindert. D.h. die Balance stimmt nicht, und ist linkslastig.
