Fantastic Paintings of Frazetta

eagerly anticipated but . . . .
...disappointed overall. Firstly, this version has been posted saying it is 120 pages yet my copy runs to only 112 pages, so not an impressive start! This new edition of his work - or rather 2nd edition according to print history - is supposedly a collection of his Fantastic paintings, i.e. fantasy work, yet page after page are given over to multiple examples a single painting used in various book/album covers along with very early pen and ink examples of children's book illustrations and strip cartoons, which although show off Frazetta's early talent, do not really belong in here. (And 2 or 3 pages in, we have an example of someone else's work who wrote the preface!)And, as someone who discovered Frazetta's work via the Conan book covers in the late 60s, and searched out his work ever since, there is so much more better examples than found here. Yes, it does have all the 'favourites' like Berserker, Woman with a Scythe, Chained, Death Dealer, Egyptian Queen (my favourite!), The Barbarian & The Destroyer to name a few, but where are Moon Maiden, Bran Mak Morn, The Sea Witch, Man-Ape, The Snow Giants, Indomitable and Sacrifice to name some 'missing' works, which would have been better to include in here than i.e. Stranded and Spider Man (no, not that one!) which are pretty weak compared to the main body of his work.On the plus side, however, are included some great works like the Eternal Champion (which I bought on the strength of the book cover back in the day), Cat Girl, The Apparition & Savage Pellucidar. (But again, too much space wasted on different versions at times)Has to be said though, in all fairness, the book is a good size and beautifully bound and value for money, the missed content notwithstanding.

(NOT) Missing Pages!
Beautiful Book with lovely full page and some double page spreads but please be aware that my copy was missing 4 Pages!. It goes from 104/105 to 110/111 missing 106/107 & 108/109. Hopefully, just a one off but please check your Books to make sure yours is not the same. I have informed my supplier and I hope to get a perfect copy, this is a really nice addition to my (quite extensive) collection of Frazetta Books.Update to my original review, just found this comment on-line. NOTE: "A few pages towards the end of the FANTASTIC FRAZETTA BOOK are mis-numbered. It is simple printing error there are NO missing pages". Well, first of all I'm glad to have discovered this. The publishers should really be obliged to make this fact more widely known. Still a great Book and very glad to own it, obviously just 4 pages shorter than advertised!

A wonderful book showcasing Frazetta art from original art.
Having collected Frazetta art books since the mid 70’s, I did ask myself if I really needed another. Then I saw the video J David Spurlock shared online, page by page, he went through the book, showcasing its beauty and previewing images for the first time in publication. I’m so glad I bought this, a book for every true Frazetta fan.

A Frazetta treasure trove.
If you are a Frazetta fan this is a treasure trove. The over-sized images & quality printing process used show his work off perfectly. If you aren't aware of Frazetta but appreciate incredible art this is the perfect introduction.

Good, but...
This is a beautiful produced book, with some nice insight into the process of making these paintings, but I don't feel it fully represents Frazetta's best work. For instance, the inclusion of 'The Executioner' is a strange one to me. It's not a strong piece and there are far more important and better realised examples of Frank's work than this one. That being said, I love the thick paper stock and rich reproduction colours!
