Must read!
This updated translation of Aeschylus' Oresteia is an absolute must read! Meineck provides a readable (much to Aristophanes' chagrin) translation complete with helpful and highly informative footnotes making this an ideal text for students. Foley's introduction places the original work in its historical, historiographical, and theatrical context, though first-time readers would do well reading this after reading the plays themselves.

Famous but not great
Generally, Greek plays aren't great my modern standards. While Oresteia is famous, you will probably find it boring.

Amazingly sensitive translation
I have several translations of the Oresteia, and purchased this one after listening to Peter Meineck's lecture series. It is magnificent, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.Meineck's translation brings the play to life in away that many others fail to do. It is at once dynamic, sensitive and true to the original Greek, and this quality of translation can only be achieved by a person who has a genuine passion for the original play. All other translations seem stilted in comparison. There is also an excellent introduction by Helen Foley, and insightful footnotes throughout the translation.I would recommend this translation to anyone with an interest in studying Classical Greek Tragedy, Theatre, or Classical Athenian society. Suitable for academic study at undergraduate level, as a reference for those going on to post graduate studies, and those with a love of Aeschylus' plays. This book is coming on holiday with me!

Easy to read and explore
Good introduction, including theatrical context of 5th Century Athens. Easy to follow translation. Would be good to use with another commentary to hand.

American Paperback = very bad quality paper
The text is awesome. Great translation. The edition (paper and printing) is lousy. Sorry Aesquilus, sorry Meineck. Blame Hackett.
