Book of Common Prayer 1979: Large Print edition

The lighting in my church isn't the best, and the traditional Book of Common Prayer doesn't have a lot of contrast. So, this large print, higher contrast (dark text on a light paper background) makes a huge difference for me. It makes worship so much more engaging. Because the page numbers are exactly the same as the smaller version, it's easy to follow services and cross reference to the liturgy for the day.Now, if the publishers would put out a large print version of the Hymnal with ALL the hymns, that would be wonderful. I would buy that in an instant...

BCP large print is what I've been missing all these years. A bit pricey, but worth it.

The smaller print in the smaller copy of the Book of Common Prayer was becoming difficult to read at night in bed, and I was thankful that this copy is not too cumbersome for my purpose and I can SEE the print with no problem. I'm also glad I decided on the soft cover edition rather than the less forgiving hard cover.....difficult to find a position lying down with a larger hard cover book. My vision is fine with glasses, and I'm not especially visually impaired at all. The combination of dim light and the former tiny print of my smaller book was just becoming a struggle at night to read. This book is a great solution at a reasonable price. The one drawback with a soft cover book, though, there is no way one can tuck a packet of bookribbons between the spine of the book and the cover to mark multiple places you'd want to turn to at different times throughout the day or night. But this is a small price to pay for the ability to SEE the print on the page! Glad to have this large print copy! Perfect!

For those who need larger print, or who have family or friends who do, this Book of Common Prayer is perfect.The cover is very nice and sturdy. The page numbers match, which is obviously necessary to follow along in church. The print is much larger than the small print in the pew books and I used it at church last week and it was great to finally be able to SEE what others were seeing in the small print in the pew books! .It is a bit heavy, but there is no way around that and it is not so heavy as to be unmanageable for me.If you have someone who could benefit from the Book of Common Prayer in large print, I think they would enjoy and appreciate this book.

Perfect for my wife especially in dark churches

The print size in this edition of the Prayer Book is very easy to read for someone with diminished vision and the quality of the paper used is very high. That saidd, the use of a somewhat thicker font would make the print even more accessible.Unfortunately, the binding is made from some kind of cheap, brittle plastic and - astonishingly - there are no marker ribbons!The binding should be overlapping and made of more pliable material, such as what is variously called, Imitation Leather, LeatherSoft or LeatherTouch. There should also certainly be marker ribbons.Such improvements might increase the cost of the book, but they would definitely be worth it.

It is easy to use. Stays open, the paper is not onion skin, so easy to turn the pages without tearing or crimping. Wish the hymnal was also available in the large print.

Same size you would find in any pew. Print is no larger than normal.
