Helpful, even to veteran Keto users
My son has been on the Ketogenic Diet for epilepsy for over 3 years (as a note, this product is focused on those who use the Ketogenic Diet for medical reasons...not body builders or those who wish to reduce). He's pretty picky and I've spent a lot of time and trial and error finding meals which will work for him. This book is written by a dietician and a mother who has a child on the diet. There is a lot of experience written into this book, including how to organize your kitchen to help your child get used to the diet (not leaving things that they can't have in the open), what tools are handy, letters to caregivers/schools, and what kind of food preparation works best in an emergency (no stores or electricity). One of the best things about this book is that all of the recipes work around the usual cream + a meal or oil + a meal. Many kids get tired of that but there seem to be few meals which can accept the fat load necessary for a keto meal. This book works to create recipes with the fat in the meal.Recipe highlights include:breakfast cookiespigs in a blanketfruit pizzamicrowaved bacon and eggsprotein wafflechicken nuggetsquesadilla with creamy avocado dipcream of chicken souptacosbake and freeze pizzaspaghetti carbonaraspaghetti alfredopork stir fry with ginger cream sodabroccoli, bacon, and blue cheese meltno-bake tropical cream cheese barsapples and peanut butter dipno-bake chocolate snack barsdairy-free yogurt (and parfaits)fudge popsiclesvanilla cupcakesThere are 96 recipes with a good mix child-friendly and slightly-more-adventurous. Most of those recipes (@60) have a full color photo at the beginning of the recipe section. My son loves this. He can chose a recipe to try by the picture, and I can see how it's supposed to turn out when I'm done. There's also an attempt to have a few recipes for children who can't drink dairy products (dairy-free yogurt, dips with oil and mayo). Most keto sources leave out that small segment of the population.Things to know before you buy:*all recipes are based on a 4:1 ratio/400ish calorie meal. You will have to tweak these (or have your own dietician tweak them) on your keto calculator.*even if you are using a 4:1 ratio, etc., the meals are protein heavy. If your dietician has you set for a more equal protein/carb balance, then you'll have to eliminate some protein here and add some carb. This may change the way the meal looks or its texture*if you have a 3:1 or smaller ratio, this book may be meaningless to you. It still makes a good resource but more for ideas then actual recipes.*the author uses Truvia powder for sweetener. If you use Splenda, saccarine, or Stevia (liquid or powder), you will have to adjust the amounts according to taste.*the author uses 40% cream and European butter (not available everywhere). They have have higher fat content so subbing 36% cream or American butter will mean a few extra grams. All in all very worth the purchase price.

Seasoned Keto Mom !!
As A very seasoned mom of a keto kid I found this book to be Fabulous!! You will find some wonderful new recipes that are so easy to fit in to any ratio on the diet. I love how Dawn made all the recipes 4-1 ratio as that is the most challenging ratio to make meal plans for. Heck if you do not like the oils she has used with any of the recipes it is so easy to change them to the oils you do use. With the help of the Ketocalculator you can change the mayonnaise or trek most recipes to use the brands you like !! Heck you can even make some of the recipes dairy free!! I am cooking for a young adult on the diet so his meals have many more calories than Dawn's do but I have been able to use her recipes trek them to a 2-1 ratio and add in the calories needed for our Medically Prescribe Diet Plan !!Yes this cookbook is written for those of us using it for Epilepsy ! But one day I think you will find it will be used for other medical conditions !!I feel this Book has helped open up the Ketogenic Diet to the next playing field !!Thank you Dawn!! Can't wait for your next cookbook to come out!!

Loved the Recipes, Well written Guide to the ketogenic diet
Thank you for such a wonderful book. I have a granddaughter who has been on the ketogenic diet for the past year. I have struggled to understand the diet, along with its exacting details of fats, proteins and carbs, weighed out in grams, in a 4 to 1 ratio. This book clearly provides menus and wonderful pictures of food (for breakfast, lunch and dinner), already balanced in proper ratio. (4:1). I have purchased this book, not only for myself but for my family so that when our granddaughter visits, we can properly feed her. This book helps one realize that the diet is essentially medicine, not just food when properly calculated in calories, & grams of protein, fat and carbs. I know that many families and especially, moms, will be well served by this book. The other review was off base. I checked the index. It does seem to be out of sync and should be fixed by the publisher. However, the Table of Contents and the pictures of food do sync with the proper pages and menus described. It is silly to judge a book by its index and not content. As I said, this book will be a god-send to families with an epileptic disorder.

This Keto Cookbook Not For Me
When I ordered this book, I was thinking all keto was the same. Being new to this world, I realized they're not created equal. I was trying to do keto without dairy; this is next to impossible with this book. Also, there seems to be a lot of processed/prepackaged foods (I'm sure to make things easier for the caregiver). Once you use processed and prepackaged foods, you lose control of what's going into your body. As an example, Hellman's mayonnaise contains soybean oil as its first ingredient. Since at least (conservatively) 85-90% of all soy in prepackaged foods is genetically modified, this would not be an option for me. The same holds true with canola oil; GMO and not a healthy fat to begin with. They suggest sugar-free Jell-O as an ingredient. I can only imagine the sweetening agent there is aspartame. (Talk about a brain toxin!) Organic stevia would be my option over Truvia. As in most recipes/cookbooks, there's little discussion about good quality meats, but when you're dealing with a person who could be especially sensitive to food additives, advising the benefits of good quality meats would help to alleviate all of the unnecessary antibiotics, growth hormones, etc that we find in our animal-based protein supply. I may be a little more particular (or informed) about what goes into my body, so perhaps it's not fair for me to judge this book on those merits, but for me, this book is pretty much useless.

Great for kids on Keto Diets
Great cookbook, helpful recipes. There's a good snack section and also advice for on the go foods and freezing meals in advance.

needs updating
The recipes are made with a lot of canola oil. It's known now that processed polyunsaturated are unhealthy for cell membranes and goes against human biological function. Ideas in this book are ok but the canola needs replacing.

Just what i needed to help me stay Keto Friendly. Although i did not realise that it was mainly for children, so have to double the mixes.

A poor book with many mistakes.
I bought this book after just starting on a Ketogenic diet. This book is awful for the following reasons: * The book has constant mistakes in it that will lead you to realise you need more ingredients than you actually bought when starting the recipe. * It doesn't say how many people one meal serves. You just have to guess. * Most of the meals in the book rely heavily on egg whites, which can make things taste like air when used heavily. * Some of the recipes are just wrong. They lead you to burn things, or not cook things enough.I wholeheartedly recommend Ketoers to look elsewhere - there are many 'Low Carb' books on amazon with mass approval. I just wish I looked there first.

Judge this book for what it's worth, not by your misplaced expecations.
This book is a life-saver for anyone... who buys it for the RIGHT reason.Meaning : MEDICAL ketogenic diet. The one used to treat neurological disorders, and some metabolic disorders. Not the hip and trendy "ketogenic diet" people use to lose weight. Nothing wrong with that, but if you're buying this for that reason, and then you leave a horrible review, sorry but you're unable to read descriptions on this site adequately and you're completely dismissing the years of hard work and most probably painful tears behind this book and the fact that it helps SAVE CHILDREN. It helps save PARENTS who are looking at their children suffer and feel completely useless. So keep your meaningless comments to yourself, and judge this book for what it's worth.I use the ketogenic diet for my multiple sclerosis. It's terribly efficient. This is not an "approved" therapeutic use, and I'm not either a licensed specialist of followed by one, so don't try to imitate me. I feel like I can do this because I have a scientific background and years of personal research on the subject of nutrition, neurology and metabolism. And also because I know my body very well. This book tries to discourage attempting it yourself, and I understood why when I started throwing up and having a puffy face. Thanks for citrate and bicarbonate, this is under control now. But I'd rather take this metabolic risk any day than having more brain lesions develop. I started the diet because of studies I have read that showed it's potential, and because my leg was starting to paralyze. It took two days no the diet, and I started coming back to normal. With me, a relapse worsens for at least a week, normally. I lose function of a limb and the feeling of my skin, and then it takes many months to resolve. Well, not this time. 2 weeks later, it's like nothing happened, and even better. Much better. The brain fog I've had that worsened since like 15 years ago is now clearing up for the first time ever.I'm gonna stick to this, and this book is perfect. All the calculations are pre-made, and so you only need to verify them to adjust for your own ingredients. The book is very well made for customization, there are little spaces to indicate your own number of grams for your ratios and portions, and the blank pages are perfect to take notes. Having this helps tremendously with planning and organizing meals, and saves tons of time with calculation, note-taking and such.If you're this diet, it's defenitely worth it. It gives a keto version of so many common meals... it's extremely intelligently made, in a way that really thinks about children's feelings and their relationship to food.A trick, if you're on a tight budget : calculate the cost of the meals you like on their page, and write the price next to the nutritional values on top. Then you can add this variable to choose from when deciding your menus.
