Looking for Blogging Inspiration?
The Huffington Post blogging book does not quite live up to the title of "Complete Guide To..." However, I highly recommend anyone thinking about starting a blog to read this book as it is very inspirational. That is the big plus to this book. Before finishing this book you will want to pick up the bat and step the plate knowing you are about to hit one out of the park. The book is filled with useful hints, and one of the most useful is the section on "Finding Your Voice." One will also find plenty of useful ethical advice. As I was reading the book the question kept popping up - "Would I understand this if I were not a blogger or had not already moved through the problems of setting up a blog?" The Huffington authors do point potential blogger to sites where one can get up and running quickly. If one thinks they will be serious about blogging, then a book such as Lisa Sabin-Wilson's "WordPress for Dummies" is an excellent second book to read. Sabin-Wilson takes the reader through the nuts and bolts of setting up WordPress, one of the primary software tools for operating a blog. While specific to WordPress, the Sabin-Wilson book is the more complete guide. The Huffington Post book lacks an index. This is a big mistake for many readers who, when reading a book touted as a "Complete Guide," will be looking for specific information on a particular topic. Instructional books should contain an index.Twelve pages are devoted to Blogroll or links to other blog pages. Readers will find many interesting sites among this list. As expected, this book has a political and news slant, fully expected since the experiences come from Huffington Post bloggers. One can easily adapt their suggestions to a blog of your own choice with a little imagination. This book was to be a Christmas gift, but I could not wait a few weeks to read it. I did not put it down, so there you have my positive recommendation. This is a wonderful little book that will inspire you to take your interest/passion to the next level - the Internet.Lowell HerrITA Wealth Management

Great getting-started book on blogging
The book is structured into 3 parts: * Part I: The Nuts and Bolts of Blogging * Part II: The Blog Revolution is Here! Be a Part of It. * Part III: The Huffington Post Resources SectionI bought this book because I wanted to gain some guidelines and insights into how to effectively blog and because of the notariety of the Huffington Post (this site and the Drudge Report are the 2 sites I usually check daily).Blogging is simply writing. If you were to do the audio equivalent it would be podcasting; the video equivalent, video podcasting. Not being much of a writer I originally postponed my calling until this month when not only did I start a family blog but a personal one as well. I discovered that I had a lot to say and blogging was an easy way to get my thoughts out to others. My favorite takeaways from the book include: * what to write about * anatomy of a blog post * Bob Creamer's blogging tips * Huffington Post's blogging rules * best practices for building communityNearly 50% of the book (Parts II and III) talks about the makings of the Huffington Post (34 pp.), how the blogosphere is remaking the media (22 pp.), and resources (56 pp.) contains resources: HuffPost's blogroll, glossary, URL resources and example HuffPost blogs (I quickly skimmed over Part III). Unfortunately while these parts were interesting and informative they did little to provide me with the tips and specifics I was looking for.I'm sure there are other blogging books available but if you're looking for a current, inexpensive, and easy-to-read book on blogging look no further. You may want to focus on the first half of the book (Part I) and then refer to Parts II and III when needed.

Better Blogging
This blogging guide is better than most, and I recommend it for people like myself, who have a little experience with blogs but wish to improve.First the information is useful. The section on "getting noticed" is very valuable to me as it mentions some hints that simply were not in the other books that I read. The "community building" section seems nice also, but I have yet to try many of the suggestions. The chapter "finding your voice" is not helpful to me as I learned most of the lessons by making mistakes over the past few years. However, I believe that people who are new to writing blogs may find this chapter very helpful. Most of the lessons I have learned are covered clearly and concisely. The Huffington Post guide lacks a comprehensive index but I found other features that almost make up for that omission. Part three, the resource section, contains a wealth of information. The glossary of terms and the website resource list are excellent. Finally, the chapters employ publishing tricks to highlight information, increase readability, and ease the task for those searching for specific assistance. For example, the editors make frequent use of larger fonts, boldface, white space, and clearly enumerated lists that are useful when browsing to find specific ideas. To increase clarity of concepts, the authors list subpoints into highlighted separate sub-paragraphs.I am happy with this purchase and recommend it for others who are not yet experienced at the blogging game.
