Excellent quality.Got for my teen, loves chess.. this is perfect to store pieces in and a bag for it too.

The board and pieces are well made and light without feeling flimsy. The storage bag is a bonus to protect the board when not in use and can also be used underneath the board to keep it from moving on smooth surfaces. If you want an inexpensive chess set and prefer wood to plastic, I'd recommend this.

Wood quality is not that good, when you look at the back of the chess board. It's a quite big one, so easy to play. It's not a magnetic one.

just what was expected - excellent value and quality

There are a lot of chess sets on amazon and I spent some time looking through all the listings before settling on this set for my son who has just taken the game up. I really liked the look of the board, the design of the pieces and the fact it came with extra queens and a carry bag - and also that the pieces are securely closed away inside. On receipt the extra queens were missing (as other buyers have also found). It is labelled to include them so I think this could be a batch problem. Even with the missing queens I considered keeping the set. The board is very nice for a light folding wooden set and the and the elasticated storage inside was very nice. However on closer inspection of the pieces I found that they are very light and do not all sit on the board flat - the consequence is they can easily be knocked over by a gust of wind or a bang to the table. The pieces also feel quite rough and not well finished leaving me to wonder at the potential for splinters; finally one of the rooks was damaged - which sealed its fate for me I’m returning and have ordered an alternative set instead. That said had it been complete and undamaged I would have kept it quite happily. I think it should be a fine starter set and can imagine that if my son continues playing and wanted to upgrade his chessmen to a high quality weighted set this board could have accommodated those and been kept for years.

Good value for money, reasonably well made.

The folding board is nice. The pieces are small, feather-light and tacky. The promised training video doesn't work; the online code simply produces an error message. If you can afford it spend a bit more money and get something better.

The chess box within the amazon box looked like it was used by someone else, the manufactures chess box (not the outer box amazon box) was damaged and the one-page A4 teach yourself manual was crushed and folded back as if someone had read it. The chess set looks cheap and feels cheap. the chess pieces are minuscule and look silly on the 16-inch chessboard. I will be buying another Chess set
