The book came in good condition no rips and any other damage. Now for the content: if you want to learn about part of the history of the latino countries and the involvement the U.S had (has) with this countries this is the book. It's explores alot about Puerto Rico,Mexico, Dominic Republic,Honduras, and more. As the author is Puerto Rican himself he shows his family experience and his thoughts on a conflict no yet spoken about but seen in todays atmosphere about Puerto Rico dependency, on the U.S. and how seeking a less dependency between each other is what (some) puerto ricans want. The political views the United States tried or accomplish in this countries and the effects it had economically and politically in them.

Gratitude to Gonzalez for Having Written This Book
Harvest of Empire is impressive in both breadth and depth (with breadth generally taking priority), quite readable (often engaging and lively, only sometimes bogging down in historical details at the expense of the larger narrative), and immensely informative.Gonzales shows how Latin America and the US have been deeply connected for centuries, how Latinas/os have a long and integral history of participating in and contributing to US culture, and how Latino/a immigration to the US can be directly connected to US military and economic involvement/intervention in Latin America. In all of this, he documents and critiques the prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination Latinas/os have faced within the US. In the short epilogue, he also lays out a concrete vision for a just, multicultural future for the country.I finished this book with a strong sense of gratitude to Gonzalez for having written it.

The real story of the us latino heritage, then and right now.
This book is a MUST read for any American (North American) trying to understand the latin-american people and how they are a huge contribution to our country's history yesterday and today. The author starts comparing how the post-Columbus Spanish empire and the early settlements of the english colonies would forever be different, and how it still shapes our North American culture today. Anyone who is unfamiliar with the latino story or who thinks that what goes on in Iraq, Israel, and Afghanistan is more important then what goes on south of the border needs to read this book. The book is well written, easy to read, and throughly researched. It is not biassed or racist. It is simply an eye opening introduction to a continuously growing latino culture that will continue to be a growing part of this country (USA) for decades to come.

Most amazing and easy read!
One of the most amazing books ever read. Written in such an intriguing way that makes it different and interesting when reading history. This book has inspired me to continue to learn more in regards to latinx diasporas and inequities.

Excellent history and insight into our fellow Americans from the South
I so appreciated this book that I sent it to my US Representative hoping she or one of her assistants will read it through to gain insights and understanding of our neighbors and their reasons for coming to the US. Juan Gonzalez shares the many stories of people he has met in his lifelong career as an investigative reporter.

Great read
Very good read. A little biased but it also has some personal experiences mixed in there and history of the US that wasn't taught in public school. Got this book for my Survey of Hispanic Culture class and I have no regrets because it has been really interesting. This book was read with The Latino Reader, which also gave more in depth information on some of the situations with the history of Latinos.

It helped me have a better understanding of who we are as a country and ...
Harvest of Empire is so relevant to the current immigration and political arena today. Specifically what P.R. is going through and decisions that are being made by the US. It helped me have a better understanding of who we are as a country and where we have (and continue to have) fallen short to the propaganda of the American dream. I was saddened by the realization that everything I was taught in school and what most people think about our history and our involvement in other countries was simply not true.
