The Drawings of Heinrich Kley (Dover Fine Art, History of Art)

This book was a good representation of the sketches of Heinrich Kley. I got it to supplement an online class I was taking and most of the references discussed in class were printed in this book. It was very helpful to go back and study his works.

Hundred year old drawings that inspired Walt Disney. Pretty inexpensive version but you can see it and older or "arty" version cost a fortune. Great fun if you like drawings even if from another age.

Kley's work is fantastic - the reproductions in this sketchbook are endlessly entertaining. Highly recommended. The book was well packaged and shipped immediately.

Books printed by Dover are generally targeted at budget-mined consumers who are more interested in getting a taste of an artist than fully immersing themselves in the experience.As these illustrations are black and white linear drawings, there will be some loss of detail. Drawings have likely been resized and the once grand drawing with a good amount of delicate line, has been now sacrificed to the god of mottled-and-muddy. This book is a fair starting point. Try to find a used copy if you can. This collection has been reprinted so many times, that I'm pretty sure the cover price represents hefty profit and "free" shipping, for what is about a 3/8-inch stack of paper.

The drawings are amazing! You can learn a lot by just looking at great pen & ink work, and this book has a lot to look at. I'm going to buy more books of Kley's work.

flow of conciosness scribbles and comments on a domestic world which has gone craze around the artist - you can feel the artists haste to get his observant and scatological observations and interpretations down on paper. Really makes one yearn to know what the turning point which turned the quiet and sociologically dutiful author of "Pouring Steel at Krupp" into the cartoonist showing his upset at the progress of the rapidly industrialization around him - I notice how he expresses his dislike and distrust of women - probably quite a back story here.

A fantastic but widely overlooked artist. This reasonably priced Dover paperback should help him become better known.

I used to go to the University Library just to look at this book. It was not available anywhere else. And they had a terrible copy machine. Decades later I find this amazing book on line. I had to have it. It is a source of inspiration, and as history would have it it, Heinrich Klay was a source of inspiration to Disney Animators. Fantasia anyone? Of course....Can't wait to get the rest of them.FdT

Me encantan los ¿bocetos? incluidos en el libro, con mucha sátira y crítica social utilizando como objeto la humanización de los animales.No es un trazo cuidado el de estos dibujos, pero sí de mucha calidad.Si queréis saber que esperar, google books tiene unas pocas páginas en abierto para que podáis valorarlo.Como repiten hasta la saciedad, posiblemente una inspiración para algunos dibujantes de Disney (Fantasía).El papel es horrible, y de ahí la valoración. Aproveché una oferta para comprarlo por 10€ y, si lo hubiese comprado al precio original, me habría sentido estafado por la baja calidad de la edición.
