Good and Angry: Exchanging Frustration for Character in You and Your Kids!

I have a seven year old daughter that has been strong willed since the day she was born. I would get so frustrated and angry because I couldn't get her to listen or follow directions no matter what I did or didn't do. I tried everything... EVERYTHING. I read this book in conjunction with ScreamFree Parenting within a couple of days. I enjoyed the message and picked up several tips. The biggest tip was that we need to calm ourselves down in order to be a calm person for our children and not to take our children's behavior personally. Once I started observing our interactions, I realized that the more angry I would get, the more stubborn and rebellious she would get. It made me take a good hard look at my parenting style and has helped me stay focused. There have been a couple of occasions where I would stop myself, remember the lessons, try a new technique and was completely amazed at the outcome. I still use this as a parenting reference often.

Ended up buying this at the seminar by these authors. I didn't get anything out of the seminar that was short, but I had felt God wanted me to go to this church's seminar. I think it was for this book that was available for sale. It has changed the way I handle stress with my child most of the time. And validated me. And kept it simple. It has lots of examples in it that helped me be able to visualize and mimic when I needed to. It is an easy read with a good flow and the chapters truly do deal with the things that real kids do- kids over 8 I would estimate, up until teens. I got a copy for my husband off Amazon after I started mine. Will not disappoint.

This is a very practical book. It identifies sources of frustration and anger that annoy a parent on a daily basis and how to calmly handle them with specific steps or techniques. It provides a technique for giving instruction and giving correction. It does this within a Christian framework with lots of scripture embedded in the chapters.Not only will you be able to deal with your own frustration and stop disrespectful behavior in your kids, but you also get the bonus of understanding the biblical teachings about various topics. Good for you, good for your kids.When you read it, you will want to say, "that's exactly how I feel." It talks about how you may have fallen into a negative routine or pattern of behavior and how to change it to a positive one. Some topics include: anger, emotions, instruction, correction, discipline, obedience, contentment, peace, honesty, truth, self-control.

I am so thankful for this very practical parenting book! I read many, many, many... but now this one is the one, I recomed to friends.I will write more when I get more time for it.

This book gives good tips and was just as described!

This book is a quick read and provides lots of general thoughts and tips on reaching character (the heart) in lieu of simply reacting to the external behavior in children. What was disappointing, in my opinion, was the lack of practical, down-to-earth examples of what their advice might actually look like in day-to-day home life. It was good, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for anyone who is really needing concrete ideas on how to "exchange frustration for character". I would recommend books like "Sherpherding a Child's Heart" and "Give them Grace" as much more practical sources to add to a Christian parent's bookshelf.

I knew my responses were unhealthy, but didn't know what to do differently. The wisdom in this book has helped our family already, and I've just finished reading! My long-ingrained wrong thinking patterns are being changed, and so are my and the kids responses. Thank The Lord! I appreciate that the end of each chapter has a brief review and then scripture that deepens the study. Thank you, Scott and Joanne! We will be ordering your other books!

So very helpful. I will need to read it again over the years, but I have recommended it to others. I don't know if it was this book, or my oldest finally growing out of a phase, but we really turned a corner in our relationship, and his anger levels.

Basically this book is a good way to start to modify the behavior of an out of control spouse. With out exception you need this book and I recommend it to anyone that yells a lot!

I had had two Kenwood mixers which had burnt out on me when not doing very onerous mixing so decided to go for something more powerful. I love it. It is easy to use,mixes like a dream and in red it looks really great.
