Happy Shaving, Happy Face

The first time I used the razor my face looked like something out of a Friday the 13th movie scenario...There was blood everywhere! I'm so used to pushing down so hard with a conventional plastic razor so it took some time for me to letting the razor do the work by using light strokes.I find the best way to get rid of hard stubble is to use the straight down stroke per your recommendation. This gets rid of the big hairs and allows me to tackle the remaining hairs at different angles if needed later on.The only thing i can add is the face must be totally lubed and wet in order to get a close shave. I use a commercial shaving creme by Gillette and if it sits on the face long enough, it can feel dry by the time you get to it. Even though it's still in its lathering stage, when I run my razor across the area my face drys out. This causes the razor to grab onto the face causing nicks and severe razor burn. I use my other hand to keep manipulating the lather by adding a little water as you rub it into your skin. So, rub and get the face wet, then swipe with the blade. My next purchase is a lathering bar to see if that makes any difference. It's definitely a learning process, but be patient...a close shave is in your future. The best thing is I don't spend an enormous amount of money anymore with commercial blades! Happy shaving!Since the time I posted this review I have found a shaving soap from Old Post Road Oil Products and get barely if any razor burn what so ever. For $10.00 I get 180 shaves from one bottle of shaving soap as opposed to the 20 to 25 shaves from a can of conventional shaving creams on the market today. If a product can make me look forward to shaving the next day then I'd say that's a good investment. Give the soap a try with the razor. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Maybe Manly, or Simply LARPing?

OK,OK,OK Ambrose Inc., you can stop emailing me about reviewing your razor. The razor is fine, a very good choice for someone looking to enter the world of "Shaving like a man," as the Art of Manliness blog calls it. You will save money on shaving in the long run by using this product. You will spend more time shaving, and so you must decide if your time is worth the savings.Allow me to say something about this whole "manliness" deal by relating a recent observation. One beautiful fall afternoon I was behind a motorcyclist. You know the type: he had spared no expense on his bike and costume. As we rode along I noticed he was doing the "point down wave" thing to EVERY SINGLE BIKER he passed by. EVERY single one. This meant he was waving every 3-20 seconds as there were LOTs of bikers out before winter set in. For 20 minutes I followed him. Of course the other cyclists reluctantly returned the gesture. This got me thinking: Was this a game of Let's Pretend? Was this Live Action Role Playing? Hmmm...If you are buying this product because some blog told you it was manly to shave like your grandpa, I'd like you to consider why your father switched to the modern twin-blade razor; it saves time and does not carry quite the risk of cutting your face accidentally. I'm a trombonist and educator, and a solid, close and effective shave is important to my musical career. After becoming quite proficient with this razor, I tried a little experiment. Using the same bristle brush and hi-end shave cream I used with this razor, I shaved with a month-old disposable twin-blade I found in my drawer. The result? Exactly the same, just faster with less razor burn. What did I learn? That it is the quality of the preparation that is most important. Choosing between a safety razor like the Ambrose and a standard-issue twin/triple/quad blade makes less of a difference. My advice is to stick with a solid twin blade and invest in a brush and cream. It'll save time and the occasional nick.

this razor Is a good quality razor but not for me

I have a bumpy face because of the previous acne I had in the past, this razor Is a good quality razor but not for me, when I shaved I Cut myself so hard, that half of my towel was in blood, I don't use it at all, let's say I wasted my money, I'm a type of guy that that don't like a hassle of returning the product. I have it sitting on my counter In no use. I strongly recommend to the people that Have bumpy skin don't waste your money, and use just the regular Juliet 2 or 3 blade plastic razor.

new to single blade shaving

I have recently changed my shaving routine from multiple blades and cream from a can to a single blade and shaving soap. I have never had a smoother shave. My only gripe is the derby razors tore up my face. Don't Let this discourage you as no razor is good for every face. I just bought a sampler and found my perfect razor blade. If you are tired of spending loads of money and want a close clean shave I highly recommend this product.

Shave

Unlike most other double edge razors, this razor becomes a single edge. When you close the razor for use, only ome edge is available. You have to take the razor apart to flip the blade for use on the other side.Ease of changing blades isn't what I expected. when changing blades, you end up with four parts to put back together. Not a gate where you simply lift out old blade and drop in a new one.
