Good first impression
I was nervous to try these after reading the mixed reviews, but I'm so glad that I did. This was my first time trying any type of mochi, and maybe I just got a particularly good batch, but I enjoyed them. There came six nicely sized mochi (about the size of a macaron) to a package, and four packages total. Individually, each mochi was wrapped inside a paper covering like a cupcake. Their "shells", so to speak, are soft, sort of like dough, but don't have much flavor. Their core has a smooth, dense texture like jam/jelly, and is very flavorful. There's a flavorless, powdery dusting all over the mochis, but that appears to just be to prevent them from sticking to their wrappers. Since their texture is unique, and I can't think of any American cuisine that's similar to them, it's really something you would probably have to try for yourself to see if you like. In terms of flavor, I think the best ones were red bean and peanut, followed by green tea, followed by taro (the only one I didn't really like was the taro, but I'm sure that was a personal preference rather than due to quality of the mochi itself). All in all, these were a nice experience, and I would definitely order this product again (or at least feel confident enough to branch out and try other brands/flavors of mochi)

Freeze them! They are better that way!
I like to freeze these before eating them. I do not know if that is normal but I tried the Mochi icecream and really liked it so I thought I would try a cookie...did not enjoy them room temperature...but I thought about the ice cream that I did enjoy very much and so I froze them. The peanut one is kind of heavy for my taste but I enjoyed the red bean and the matcha tea flavor the best...the taro was not bad either.

Royal Family's Quality varies, but overall the best deal $$ wise on Amazon for packaged mochi.
-- They've raised prices since I left my review.... keep that in mind.I'd give 5 stars if the first package I received wasn't close to the expiration date. The taste and quality was very different than the second package which was fresher and tastier. I was desperate for mochi so I went ahead and gave this product a second try. I would say overall daifuku's mochi tastes the best, but this one isn't that far behind and they give you a sampler that's reasonably priced on Amazon.A single pack could cost anywhere from 4-5 bucks (3 if you find a good deal), but you get all of their flavors! You do save a bit of money by not going and buying each individual flavor. The only downside is i wish they would let you choose what flavors you want in your sampler. If they cut me a deal like this for 4 boxes of taro mochi I'd keep reordering!Flavors best to worst:Peanut butter is probably the best. The mochi has a nice nutty flavor and the filling is a dollop of peanut butter.Taro is tasty. Good amount of taro flavoring, but its not super strong like in some boba teas for instance. The majority of the taro flavor comes from the filling.Red bean is the most bland. Packaged red bean mochi tends to be bland overall, but this one is even more bland than other brands I've tasted (daifuku's & rice cake's).I'm not a fan of the green tea flavor. It reminds me A LOT of the green tea flavor in Halo Top's green tea/mochi ice cream. It's that very chemical, perfume tasting green tea flavor. It straight up tastes like green tea perfume if that could be a thing. Very bitter.

Surprisingly Wonderful
You know, I saw the three and a half star rating and got a little worried, but I had nothing to be worried about. The product is stellar, the items arrived quickly, and I will be ordering these again. The textures are the best I've found with this brand. I usually get them from BB&B, and they're overly solid and dense there. This seller shipped a product that was stretchy and gooey, just how mochi should be.None of them are overly sweet, so if you're looking for that sugar rush then you might not be impressed. And I will admit, the green tea one isn't phenomenal compared to the others (taro and red bean are my favorites), but I didn't get a perfume-y taste to it. It just kind of tasted like mild green tea and not much else. I had never tried the peanut, so that ended up being a wonderful treat.I understand the reviews that were pissed with having a spoiled, sour product, and I would be pissed as well if my grocery had been out of date. However, what I received was fresh, and as someone who purchases this specific brand of mochi relatively often, this is the best choice I've found so far. Of course boxed mochi isn't going to be as good as homemade mochi, and comparing the two just isn't fair. Seems like the more recent reviews are the more positive ones, so perhaps the seller has up'd their game. And if they have, fair play, because it worked. This is the best option I have found, and 4 for $15 is a brilliant price. I will be ordering more right after I write this review, and I'm not even done with the ones that were sent to me. If the next order is as good as the first, I imagine I'll be a frequent customer.

Not Good Quality
After having mochi from a semi local japanese retailer I bought these hoping for something similar. While they were the same type of mochi these honestly made me sad when I ate them, they tasted dry and powdery without an overly flavorful filling. Every time I ate them they made me want to cry, but strangle not in a bad way if that makes since, more that they felt empty of soul and thus I eating them felt empty. So in other words its not quality mochi.
