The Next Step

When I was much younger I read the Spanish version of this book. At that time I was a blessing to me and I don't want to forget that. Now, being a pastor and a few decades later I still find it useful but can see several areas that could be better. I will break this review by Chapter:1: THE BIRTH OF THE BIBLE - Introduction to the Birth of the Bible but I have seen, much, much better on this subject and I wonder how useful it is to new believers in the way it is presented. It is this first chapter that worries me the most as it introduces content I would never bring into a discipleship class. I agree on the subject as a good choice for new believers but the presentation and content need a lot of work. It is also too small and there are much better ways to present this subject.2: DON'T READ THAT BOOK - a little dry but I think it does a good job of promoting the study of the Bible3: PRAYER - maybe the best chapter of the book. Very good introduction to prayer in the life of the believer.4: LOVE - The chapter is a story, a little over the top but it gets the job done.5: THE ENEMY - Not a bad chapter on the reality of Satan and how he deceives the world. Some parts of this chapter are better than others.6: PITFALLS - It's OK but way to brief. It's not very useful in such a condensed format.7: CALLED OUT - It is in the form of an illustration or story. OK but too brief.8: WARN THEM - Good chapter on personal evangelism. Could be better but it gets the point across.So would I give this to a new Christian? Depends, if they have a lot of exposure to the Church that poor first chapter can be overlooked and the rest will be very useful. If they are totally new in the faith that first chapter could be a problem, I would consider another resource.

Don't believe ALL the bad feedback, and hate this book before you buy it. What really connected with me in this book was understanding the movements of the enemy. I am a converted catholic, and fairly new in my walk with Jesus Christ, and when the book reveals satan's tricks it REALLY made me aware of what he will do to influence you to "try" to steal you from Jesus. Especially those of us that are new in our walk. This small section of the book led me to research the enemy, and learn about the tempting of Jesus in the book of Matthew, the serpent who tempts in the book of Genesis, and the accuser who causes Job to be challenged in his faith. This is a good example of what this book is good for. Use it as a reference, a jumping on point so to speak. Now, thanks to Next Step a few of the parts of my walk with Christ are now easy to understand. Think of it as a simplified map. The description of the Roman Road is easy to understand and follow. Some parts of the book such as the step by step instruction of how to testify didn't help me as each person you talk to will be different, just as all of us are different. I like the comic book format, not so much for the art, as the readability of it.I recommend this to someone willing to take it for what it is, and not expect this simple christian comic book to be a cornerstone of their faith, but rather another step in the walk with our savior Jesus Christ.

Fantastic book for new Christians... and even for non-Christians who can't seem to figure things out..... that was me 20 years ago. It is easy to read and explains a lot of what goes on.the people at Chick are awesome.

Really liked the book using cartoons to get every point across. The emotional impact was powerful and shattering. The idea of planting all these tracts around is spot on in a culture trying to rob Christians of the right to speak of Christ Crucified.

If you are at all familiar with Chick Tracts you know that this book is a follow-up to making a decision for Christ. Where do you go from there? This fully illustrated book is a soul map. March on Soldier of God!

After reading this book, I have found it to be very good. Although this book may seem simplistic, it gets its point across. This book is not meant to be a dissertation on the spiritual growth of a Christian, but rather a quick help guide. Things don't have to be complex in order to make a point. Jesus even said his teachings could be understood by children before adults. If you have ever been in a theological library you would soon find out you are feeding your intellectual life and not your spiritual life. This book does not claim to be a future theological masterpiece to collect dust on a bookshelf somewhere, but rather, as a short and simple guide to help a person connect to God under the salvific blood of Christ. So if you want deep intellectual reading, find another book, but if you want a simple how-to guide to learn how to make your practical Christian life more spiritually pleasing, buy this book. By the way things look, you could pick up a used one for 35 cents or so, a small price to pay for easy Christian help.

Jack Chick was a great artist and illustrator but he also had a passion to witness to unsaved people. All of his books are Great and his witnessing Gospel tracts are hard hitting and are a great tool to reach out to lost people.

I found this little booklet engaging in its message. Brought out some good strategies for staying the course after being born again.

THIS IS A GREAT AID FOR THOSE WHO HAVE JUST RECENTLY BECOME CHRISTIANS. IT IS TRULY A N EXCELLENT GUIDE..

I have no doubt that God has used chick publications to bring people to Christ. It includes good practical advice for new Christians and for older ones too! Gift one to someone!
