Excellent Christmas Present
Beautifully compiled, bought it for my Aunt in Lincoln - she was born in Wragby and has lived there and in Lincoln for all her 78 years. It's a fine publication and excellent value.

Review of History of Lincoln by Richard Gurnham
Richard Gurnham's book is a highly readable account of a city which peaked in medieval England and again in the second half of the nineteenth century but which dipped rather a lot in between. The economic and social fortunes of the city are well tracked but there are some colourful characters, too-the ultra reactionary Lincoln MP, Colonel Charles de Laet Waldo-Sibthorpe for one, who opposed every single progressive measure in Parliament for 20 years and stopped the railway coming to Lincoln, saying he would only vote for a railway that would carry ministers to hell. The rapid growth of industrial Lincoln in the later Victorian period is extraordinary. The book contains many fine illustrations.Bryn Moore
