Great cookbook for country recipes. If you like making things from scratch this cookbook is for you!

Wasn't what I expected.

Well-written and researched book with recipes that will take you on the trail with the cowboys. I've tried several of the recipes in the book with great success. Not just a "cookbook" but a slice of Old West history as well. Excellent resource for any fan of the Old West era.

This reads like history of cowboy chuck wagon cooking starting from the first cattle drives. Lots of stories of people in the golden cowboy time with chuck wagon recipes to go along with the stories.

Good book!

At first thought it didn't seem worth the money as book thin etc. However, I have really enjoyed the old stories in the cookbook. Plus I made a bread pudding from a 1916 recipe in the book (not being a cook either) and it was amazing; so much so I've had people ask me for the recipe. Recommended for cowboy lovers and old style cooking

Unfortunate this recipe book wasn’t for me. Personally, it didn’t really have anything in it that I would make. It has a lot of odd recipes such as Vinegar Pie, plain old Mashed Potatoes that aren’t any different from how most people make them, applesauce, etc. There aren’t as many dinner recipes as I thought there would be more recipes to do on a campfire like it said there are. Maybe for people who live off the land more it wouldn’t be bad...Also just disappointed with the state of it. I bought a used one but it said it was in very good condition. Read once, like new. So I was going to give it as a gift. Unfortunately, it came extremely worn and damaged, even though it has an “Amazon Warehouse Inspected” sticker on it. I love Amazon and haven’t lost all faith, I think this one just slipped through the cracks somehow.
