Yes, the spring part comes off. Also I am boycotting Amazon due to their draconian tactics. So buy from this vendor bypassing Amazon. Otherwise, this product works well.

Can this be tightened or adjusted when it becomes loose?

No. I’ve had mine for over a year now and it still super snug. I had to buy this one bc the original has lost its ability to clip.
