TEKTROV-Brake Threaded Pads, Black

I've had my Trek for about 4 years. I ride it a lot, year-round, but it's mostly just casual riding on bike trails and through parks so my brakes don't get used that much. My brakes started to squeak, just a little at first but over time it got worse until it sounded like a calamity was about to happen. But when I looked at the brakes there was plenty of brake pad left. I tried the various things like cleaning the pads and wheel rims and sanding the contact surface of the old brake pads but the squeak stayed. I decided that the only alternative was replacement, maybe the material in the pads had dried out or hardened over time. My OEM brake pads were 55mm Tektro 520.12 which didn't seem to be in stock anywhere. I noticed that some fancier brake pad brands, like Kool Stop seemed to mostly offer longer pads. I figured longer pads would mean more surface contact and better braking. So when I saw these 70mm Tektros on Amazon I decided to go with them. Though over the years I've changed bike brake pads a number of times I don't do it that often so I found YouTube videos that were informative. An advantage of changing your brake pads before they wear down too much is that there's a good chance you can just swap them in and won't need to mess with the other adjustments for you bike brakes. Long story short the new Tektro brake pads work great and I am once again a quiet bike rider, but I miss the way I used to be able to make pedestrians wince when I hit my brakes.

I used these to replace the original brake pads on a 15 year old Trek mountain bike. The brakes feel like new again. Easy to install, no complaints.

I don't do much bike repair work other than tires, minor adjustments and lube. I have a talented, reasonably priced bike mechanic nearby who usually has the parts I need and get's me back on the road quickly. I had never heard of Tektro and assumed my guy would have to hunt for them so I looked at Amazon and found these pads that looked right. Took about an hour to change the pads and adjust the cables and toe-in. The brakes now work like new.

I suspect these are knockoffs. The Tektro pads I'm replacing have the logo, model number and "for aluminum" cast right into the back of the pad. Major brands do this. Also, these do not resemble in size or shape the Tektros that are coming off the bike. I know manufacturers can change specs, but that, and the fact there are absolutely no markings on these pads, make be believe they are counterfeit. Unfortunately, I don't have time to return them, they are for a friend's bike and she needs it.

Thank God I purchased these and replaced my own brakes instead of going into a bike shop. It's literally the easiest thing ever.I was nervous that I would get the wrong kind but these fit my Trek road bike perfectly. They've worked great 100% of the time, so far. And hopefully they'll continue to work 100% of the time. :)

did the job, good price

In einer "Fachwerkstatt" wurden mir am Hinterrad falsche (zu breite) Bremsschuh anmontiert, mit dem Effekt, dass diese sich einseitig abnutzten und letzendlich klemmten. Ich habe mir dann die inzwischen auch abgenutzten Vorderradbremsschuhe genauer angesehen und festgestellt, dass ich hinten die falschen Bremsschuhe drauf hab. Also gegoogelt und hier gefunden, gekauft und selbst montiert. Jetzt ist alles gut und die Bremsen funktionieren einwandfrei ohne Hängen und Schleifen.
