OK, It doesn't fit...but it does!
I took a chance that I could make this fit in my netbook. And it doesn't. But I made it fit. OK, here's what I did. I have a ACER One 722 netbook. Came with a stock 250 GB hard drive, which I immediately took out and replaced with a Samsung 1 TB Spinpoint bought on Amazon, with a fresh clean Windows 7 install about 2 years ago. That filled up quickly with my DJ tunes and tons of movies. When I saw this 2 TB WD hardrive for only $105 I wanted to try to see if I could make it fit. After reading all the complaints in the reviews I figured I could and if not I got a 2TB external HD. First off, the contacts fit perfectly, because the computer is a ribbon strip and can accommodate some latitude of a mm or two higher. Now if you are familiar with your netbook, you probably know the whole plastic bottom is attached with only one screw, to expose all the inner-eds. Just mount the 15mm 2 TB hard-drive as you would normally. Now try to reattach the bottom with the one screw...It will fit, trust me on this, but with a bit of a bulge on the bottom. And the wonderful thing about it, nobody but you know the bulge is even there. Now for me anyways, cloning was bit of challenge since the netbook has no optical drive to use Clonzilla as a boot disk to start the cloning process. And I didn't have enough USB inputs for the external optical burner (2) and the external case to put the 2 TB HD in for cloning, also (2). So I took a chance and tried a freeware cloning program from Freeware Files called AOMEI Backupper Standard Edition 2.0 which does not have to have a boot start with a CD. Took about 14 hrs to clone my 1 full TB to the new 2 TB drive. Now here is where I had to jump thru hoops to get it recognized by the computer. When I powered up the netbook, C drive only showed 1 TB, not the 2 TB. So I used the default Windows My Computer, Disk Management to set the unallocated 1 TB part to at least now show in My Computer as an additional 1TB drive "D". Next I used EASEUS Partition Master 9.1.0 Home Edition to merge the partitions into one 2 TB, and viola! Done! One other note I would like to make. I also have a 17' Toshiba Satellite L775D-S7340 quad core. So I checked to see if it would fit. Well guess what? It doesn't fit...But it does!!! I took out the 1 TB Samsung Spinpoint also bought at Amazon, it also with a fresh Windows 7 install. I tried to make it fit and as with my Acer Netbook, it slid right in too. I then screwed the one screw back in place, and low and behold it too will have a 2 TB 15mm HD...of course with a manageable slight buldge on the bottom that no one will see anyway. So my advice...try it! I doesn't fit...but it does!

Excellent Drive for Massive Portable Storage
The drive itself is heavy due to the amount of platters in the drive. It is excellent if you want a small drive with big storage. You need to make sure you use an enclosure that is capable of 15 mm drives. I used an Oyen MiniPro enclosure with SS3.0/ESATA. It's performance is around 107 mb/s write and 105 mb/s read with either eSATA 6 and SS 3.0 using Crystal DiskMark and file transfer observations. Which is about average for a small drive. In comparison to the WD Black 750 gb for example, I can usually get 126 mb/s write and 122 mb/s read. Not much slower. The drive spins at 5200 rpm according to Crystal DiskInfo. I wish it had read and write statistics like most newer drives do, such as the amount written and read like the WD Black 750 gb and WD Black 500 gb drives do. The amount of heat it produces is the same as the WD Black. So far I've filled it up about 3/4 of the way and no bad sectors or issues with it yet.

Great, not-so-little 2.5" drive...
Ok, first off, it's chunky. Don't buy this if you're looking to squeeze it into a laptop, because it's likely not going to fit. If however, you're like me and you're looking for a small efficient high-capacity drive to include in your desktop system, then this one's the ticket. I live in a county where I pay US$0.41/kWh, so every Watt I can save counts.

I had the previous model WD 2Tb and it died ...
I had the previous model WD 2Tb and it died. I bought this model in May, 2014 and it has now died. I don't know if another manufacturer has 2Tb internal laptop drives, but I'm now inclined to buy something other than WD.

Sacrifices performance to run cooler and quieter...
I had a 1tb 7200 drive that performed very well. I needed more space so replaced it with this drive. Everything worked, bootup seemed to take longer but I thought it was just me. It isn't. This drive is advertised as a "WD Green is simple high capacity storage that runs cooler and quieter than traditional 7200 RPM drives". Probably true. Unfortunately, PERFORMANCE is sacrificed. Windows shows 100% disk usage for at least the first 15 minutes! The clue is the "green" in the title. They must have slowed it down, turned it off, and slowed down access speed. I'd bet that it doesn't run at full speed all he time either. I paid a 30% premium over a less expensive drive. I would have been far better off skipping this drive entirely. If you need the space, but not performance. Go with a cheaper drive. If you need performance, look elsewhere...

Be warned of thickness this is 15mm; not your normal laptop, ps4, ps3, etc.. thickness of 9mm or less
Be warned this does not fit in laptop (9mm) or laptop like drives, such as 2.5 normal enclosures, ps3, ps4, etc.. even tho it shows up under searches of 2.5, laptop, 7200rpm etc.. you need a 9mm or slimmer for laptop sizes, this is a 15mm you have to have a special enclose that is for 15mm thickness about 25$ in cost nearly three times most normal 2.5 enclosures or put it in a desktop. I give it three stars because it does work, quite, and I believe reliable. But item was catorgerized under 2.5 size and laptop/desktop it was purchased to go into a PS4 that requires a laptop sized thickness drive 9mm or less and now I have to turn it into an external drive or return.

The HDD is awesome in performance
Hi, The HDD is awesome in performance. 2TB is lovely size for laptop. Before.purchase I knew it would not fit in current laptop( mine dell inspiron 1764) but I made room ( seriously by cutting plastic with hot knife ; its not suggested though ) and it got working. Awesome feeling.... Thanks Daytona for sending genuine HDD. Here in India all shops full of refurbished goods (even OEM stores have dual prices; working and working with warrenty). By the time you go and claim warrenty the shopkeepers chage the dress codes as well as the policies. I hate gadget / electronic purchasing in shops. Thanks to Daytona and Amazon providing best product and service. Saurabh Bangalore -76 , India

A 2TB drive in a 2.5 inch chassis. No the speediest of drive but it does the job just fine. Wanted a large capacity drive but have been moving to small drives in my PC as they tend to use less power and generate less heat. So far device has been fine. If you are buying this for a laptop be aware that this may not fit as it is a lot taller than "standard" drives. The same applies for external drive cases too.

I motivi erano vari: ampliamento dello storage, maggiore silenziosità, minore calore prodotto. I tre obiettivi sono stati raggiunti. Unico dubbio era la resistenza all'uso. Ormai io acquisto solo dischi WD.
