Joshua's Night Whispers Board book – September 1, 1994

We have loved reading this book for years; we bought it over six years ago and we have kept it instead of handing down to cousins. It is simple and beautiful. The prose is like a poem, and reading it makes you breathe more slowly and helps calm you and your body down for the evening. My blood pressure always drops when I read this book. When she was a toddler, my kid asked for it and loved reading it and asking questions about each page, noticing all of the details in the illustrations that weren't mentioned in the text. Now it's become one of the books that helps us slow down, relax, and feel good.We have given this book as a gift many times to friends, and they always thank us for the addition to their kids' libraries.My white, blonde, blue-eyed kid didn't have enough books with Black kids when she was a toddler, and this was one of the first books we bought to help fix that problem. It's a good book because it's a good book -- but it also is great to have a Black family depicted in a gentle book that shows a dad's love and tenderness with his son.

My son absolutely loves this book. The colors are great and the images hold his attention throughout the entire story. The only thing I didn't realize was that it was a pretty small book in size, but it wouldn't have stopped me from purchasing had I paid attention to that before. I love that it's a boardbook as well.

Joshua's Night Whispers is one of several books by Angela Johnson that is used to support lessons in the Lucy Calkins Units of Study For Primary Writing curricululm. Joshua's Night Whishpers is used to help young writers see an accomplished author writing "small moment" stories in the same way they also try to write small moments about their own lives. Johnson turns a simple, common event that could occur in any child's life and turn it into a tender story any child could relate to; especially the feeling of safety and security when being held by a loving parent.

I got this for my 4-year-old son because he is an AA boy with white parents and his name is Joshua. However, he's a bit too old for it; probably better for a 2-year-old. Very nice illustrations.

This was a good book for my 1st grade students. I bought it used, but it was in decent condition.

Golden is still great

Wasn't what I was looking for. I needed a good example of detailed writing to share with my 2nd graders. Very difficult to find and is a baby's hard-board book. Only about 4-6 pages in length.

It was okay but a little scary.

Unser Sohn ist bald 2,5 und hatte das Buch leider nur wenige Male in der Hand. Er schätzt komplexere Texte, die das Buch nicht hergibt. Schade, denn das Thema des Buches hat durchaus Relevanz. Schön ist auch die Vielfältigkeit. Schade, dass es wieder nur auf Englisch erhältlich ist.

Joshua's night whispers is nice book, introducing simple words to babies and slowly drifting them to sleep. The illustrations were suitable for a bedtime book with their calming colours.
