Suzuki Organ School, Vol 1: Organ Book Paperback – January 1, 2006

This book is NOT for beginning pianists, but perfect for beginning organ training. The pieces are easy and have some beginning exercises for both hands separately, as well as pedals by themselves, but quickly moves to combining both hands and pedals. The pieces have sustained pedals in the first few pieces so there is not a lot of movement of feet while you learn how to use all three together. Towards the end, the pedals move around more. The melodies are familiar children's songs like Mary Had a Little Lamb, and Twinkle, Twinkle, so the organist doesn't have to think much about where the melody should go, and can instantly recognize if what they play is not correct. Basically, this is a book to get someone started in putting two hands and feet together and also work on developing sustained notes in both hands, so they learn the different sound production and feel of an organ as opposed to a piano. This should only be used with a student who has prior piano experience as it does not teach beginning piano theory or techniques. Depending on the student's level on the piano, this book could be gone through very quickly for more advanced students as an introduction, or could be used for a few months for some piano students who have taken piano for a year or two. Older students may feel the songs are childish, and you may want to supplement the book with prelude books that offer a little more challenge until they become more adept at using their feet on the pedals. All in all, a great beginning book to introduce someone to using all of their appendages!

Nice song book

Habe als Kind vier Jahre Klavierunterricht erhalten. Nun wollte ich mit dem Orgelspiel beginnen. Das viel mir unendlich schwer. Mit diesem Buch hatte ich erstmals das Gefühl voranzukommen. Allerdings sind die Übungsstücke eher für den Kindergeschmack. Trotzdem motivierte mich dieses Buch für den Einstieg mehr als andere Lehrwerke auf dem Markt.
