Fantastic design, excellent linux compatibility
I'm quite impressed with this M2 NVMe enclosure. Installing the nvme ssd was easy, consisting of just attaching a pad to the interior, plugging in the drive, screwing in a retaining screw, removing the cover over the thermal pad on the bottom cover, and then attaching the bottom cover four case screws. The built-in fan was an incredible design. I can not belive that it can made a fan for a PCB to cool the SSD. But it's a surprising idea.Once installed, the drive was recognized without problem by my Linux (ubuntu 18.04) boot disk. The drive easily sustained 466 MB/s while cloning a 1 TB drive with dd, which is impressive given the theoretical bandwidth of the USB 3.0 port I had connected it to is 500 MB/s; clearly the USB protocol is the limit here (and not the USB to NVMe board). The case did become a little warm during the transfer (arguably the fault of the NVMe drive), but there were no signs of errors or throttling. The case was also a relatively uniform temperature. I would interpret this as a sign of good thermal coupling between the drive and the case (no errors caused by heat) and within the case itself (uniform temperature), and adequate surface area of the case for radiating heat (no errors caused by heat). The case is a bit larger and heavier than some NVMe cases out there, but this likely contributes to its good thermal performance. The fan will work once connected to device and it was really quiet.Due to the bottleneck of the USB connection, I would not recommend buying an NVMe drive just to use in this case; you can probably get the same performance with an SATA drive at a lower cost. If you have an extra NVMe drive or need a case to clone your existing drive, however, this well-built case provides reliably performance at the limits of what USB 3.0 can support.Note that other reviews have noted errors with what sounds like USB 3.1 gen 2 connections; I have not tested this so I can't comment on whether this case would be a good choice if you intend to use USB 3.1 gen 2.

Everything is good, except the type C to type C cable.
The package included two cables, type C to type C (USB-C) and type C to USB-A (USB 3.0). The USB-C cable is of questionable quality: it was causing random freezes. I tested the USB-C cable that came with Dell monitors - it's high quality, and I had no problems with that, so, it's definitely the cable that came with enclosure. Unfortunately, I need good cable for my monitor, so I ended up with USB 3.0 cable for now, and will look for quality USB-C cable when I have time.

No heats sinks, just the fan to keep it cool.
This unit is slightly longer than other enclosures due to the extra space taken by the fan. It does not come with any heat sinks or heat pads as the unit relies mainly on the fan to keep it cool. The fan is barely audible and I wonder what will happen if the fan dies. There is also a slight fit issue.

Samsung EVO Plus still gets pretty warm
I opted for an active cooling solution due to my Evo Plus's tendency to run hot. In the other enclosure I'd hit 50C idle and 75C under load which was completely unacceptable. In this enclosure idle is about 35C and load is about 60C. It's an improvement and I no longer border thermal throttle temps but I was hoping for another 10C of decrease ( down to 50C) at peak like my internal drive does.

Let me save you a-lot of hassle
The cable that comes with this is garbage, the device itself is actually really good so just go ahead and order a short usb-c cable (longer ones will give you issues too) and you should be good to go.The review that shows the crystal mark is accurate it gets about 1000/1000 on all my USB 3.1 devices. It is also true that it doesn't heat up, I have had other external SSDs that get quite hot. I put a Sabrent Rocket Q in mine. The first one I got had a bad usb-c cable and also exhibited strange behavior even when I used a good cable. They got me another one quick and it is doing well. 5 stars if the first one hadn't been defective...

Incredably slow think I got a dud
I put a XPG SX8200 Pro in it (A very fast drive 3500MB/s) And using usb-c 3.1 gen1 I get usb 2.0 speeds around 40MB/s read and write so then I tried my usb 3.1 gen2 port and speed was improved on reads to 180MB/s but the writes were awful like under 2MB/s hopefully replacement will work better.Edit: Replacement one works at usb 3.1 Gen1 speed around 440MB/s but not gen2 this works for me because I'm going to be using it on gen1 but its still disappointing on the bright side the fan work great during benching it only hit 42c

Good enclosure with bad USB-C cable
First, the enclosure does a good job keeping the NVME drive cool under heavy load, which was a major reason for choosing this product over the toolless options available from competitors. No instructions are included, so it took a few seconds to figure out the correct procedure to open the enclosure.Unfortunately, the USB-C cable originally included with the enclosure was bad. The read speeds were fine (just short of 1000 MB/S), however it was terrible for writing (less than 1 MB/S). I made do with the USB-A cable also included with the enclosure until a replacement USB-C cable I ordered arrived, so I was moving along at half the performance I should have been getting out of the enclosure.I emailed Speedbyte about the bad cable two weeks ago, and they have not responded. I'd like to give a more positive review, but between the expensive cable replacement and lack of customer service, I can't give this enclosure a five star review.

It gets warm with heavy use. Does support up to 1TB NVME
Fairly easy to get set up. Has great data transfer. It does however get very warm with heavy use.
